★ ★ ★ ★ ★ came with a friend and his family to fish for the first time. NOTE TO VISITORS: this dam/lake is at the far end of taman botani and you need to: 1. Pay rm3 for entry/parking, 2. Park and then walk to the counter at the main gate to pay for entry into the park, 3. Drive to another entrance and register, and 4. Finally, pay when you arrive at the dam if you want to fish.
But once you're there you'll enjoy the the scenery and atmosphere of the lake. It is beautiful, tranquil, peaceful and dreamlike after the rain stops.
the pacu and toman in this lake are big and aggressive. according to the website other fish include tilapia, jelawat, rohu, krai, patin, baung and haruan. we met Nik, the cool Harley-Davidson biker guy who runs the place and had the opportunity to fish using chicken meat at the same time the fish were feeding.
plus points:
+ it's a great place to fish
+ great for family picnics
+ nature walk, yoga, anything peaceful
+ photography
+ there is a toilet and it is CLEAN!
on the downside:
- the dam is located very far in from the taman botani entrance. don't dream of going there by foot.
- there is almost no phone reception here
- the last stretch of road is steep and has potholes
- the wooden structures badly need to be fixed
- more cabanas/shelters and water faucets for washing would be most appreciated
current fee is RM30 per fishing rod (non-sharing), add. rod @RM10.
I will return, with sunscreen.
