Hidden gem and it's worth the drive there Stay in Batu Pahat long enough and you'll eventually try to unearth some of the hidden gems scattered all over Bandar Penggaram (for some reasons I remember this name). My project in Minyak Beku has been going on for 3-4 months - and everytime I went down south, I would look for new places to eat. After a heavy night of drinking with my customers, naturally I wanted to have a good breakfast the next morning. Our project supervisor mentioned about a great place for roti canai and guided us there. The journey took us through the trunk road leading towards Senggarang. We reached a quiet Malay kampung and stopped right in front of the intended destination. Malay kampung folks are a friendly bunch and we quickly placed order for roti canai - we requested for extra crispy and they obliged. ◾roti canai - the kakak started cooking upon request to ensure that our dish was fresh out of the stove. Definitely extra crispy, flaky and buttery piece of bread accompanied by a plate of curry and sambal. So good that I almost asked for second helping... But the rest did! The way they looked when gobbling up their own roti kosong or roti telur bawang was priceless. ◾Asam Pedas ikan merah - apparently this dish is what the restaurant is famous for. Well.. the name says it all! When I asked about their asam pedas, the friendly girl showed us the available options - fish head, ikan merah, ikan kembong, ikan bawal and ikan siakap. Asked for a piece of ikan merah and 2 ikan kembong... And we were rewarded with a memorable asam Pedas which was spicy, sourish, slightly sweet and oh so addictive. I finished the soup in one plate.. A very pleasant breakfast in a serene kampung setting, what more could I ask for? The asam pedas is definitely the main reason for a visit to this part of town.

Ordered fish head asam pedas, telur dadar and taugeh with rice and drink for 5 pax that cost just over RM50. And when you see a lot of Chinese came in a Malay shop that is the sign of something else the place can offer. Highly recommended.
