The first place I wanted to go to was closed so I dropped by here, a place not yet on Maps. While the fish was fresh (to be expected from a shop that's next to a fishermen jetty), the asam pedas itself is quite average.

My first and last visit. Service was chaotic. You came in first, you got your meal later than those who came after you. Waited so long for our fish only to be told that is was not available. Taste.....nothing to shout. I've tasted better asam pedas than theirs.

There’s a raging debate on which state has the best gulai ikan Asam Pedas (Sour Spicy Fish curry); Melaka or Johor. It’s a bit unfair to compare the two as it’s akin to comparing between green and red grapes. Anyway, came to this restaurant in a place known for asam pedas and ordered the Ikan Merah (Red Fish / Grouper) asam pedas. The fish is fresh and firm with the gravy more towards sour than its Melaka cousin. The gravy is also a bit more watery. Personally I prefer the Melaka variety as it has more body and depth but again it’s personal preference. Now I must describe the ‘Lokan’ which is a local clam which I’ve never had anywhere else. The freshness is evident in the distinct taste of the sea in the lokan itself. The size...it’s nearly freakishly big that it’s more on the side of chewy. But what makes it unique is it’s water ‘bags’ which burst open when you bite into it releasing that fresh sea taste. Overall, pleasant dining (unless you’re a hygiene freak) located in picturesque surroundings. Freshness of seafood is guaranteed. And at RM48 for everything, it’s a literal steal.

Great place. Had asam pedas mayong fish with lokan fried chili. Marvelous. Not spicy, just nice for kids (although wish for spicy) and not salty. Like the star fruit juice so much - fresh, ordered 3 glasses. Will return soon for more.
