β β β β β Very helpful and nice staff.. car very clean.. suitable for daily rental, weekly rental, monthly rental.. for those/ staff in some of company want to rent a car with Avis in melaka... I surely recommend this Avis to you all.. Avis staff will provide the receipt to us after 24hrs rental ended.. with this receipt that staff who rent a car earlier can claim back to their working place or campany..

β β β β β Questionable practices, something funny might be going on with rates and charging.
I was looking for a small rental car to drive as a replacement whilst our own car was at the repairers, so AVIS seemed like a logical place to start.
Through the official AVIS reservation site, I put in booking at noon on 13-Apr-2018, for a pickup of the vehicle at 17:00 on the same day. So, there were five hours between the time of booking and pickup, so I thought it would be more than enough time for whomever to organise a vehicle.
When we arrived at the AVIS Melaka office approximately at 16:00, apparently no booking was to be found in the system, so I left details of my booking number, while the AVIS staff member went to drive over a vehicle.
Yes, we had arrived at the office earlier than the pickup time, but even if we'd arrived precisely at 17:00, the fact was "the booking takes up to 24 hours to show up in the system", was the explanation given (!). That's a rather implausible excuse, seeing that information zips round in mere moments. There was internet and phone running within the premises, so for the booking not to be "routed" round to the Melaka office seemed rather amiss.
Rather than wait around, we went off to have something to eat rather than wait around, and give the staff some time to get the vehicle ready.
After we returned to the AVIS office from our meal, a vehicle was brought around while we stood around, but the condition of the vehicle (lots of dings, abrasions etc.), its bodywork, the cleanliness inside and out left a lot to be desired. There was a McDonalds paper bag with leftovers inside, wrappers of all kinds in pockets and on the floor, plus plenty of grit, dust and grime inside. It appeared unlikely that this would have built-up over the course of a single rental, but that repeated rentals had taken place without any cleaning occuring in between whatsoever.
Unsavoury as the condition of the car was, that wasn't the most concerning aspect. The staff member then proceeded to set up the booking while we waited, which resulted in a new booking with a much higher walk-in rate. If I hadn't been observant and noticed the amount and signed the paperwork without objection, I would have been charged close to 70% more the previously booked rate if I'd signed up under the (new) walk-in rate. That booking rate had to be manually altered, otherwise who knows what I would have been committed to pay!
Then, after I was assured that the amount charged would only be be "blocked" against my card, and final settlement would occur when the car was returned, I was indeed charged the full amount plus a deposit as the credit card receipt stated, as well as what was notified by my bank.
On top of that, I was pressed to sign ANOTHER manual credit card authorisation (imprint) to block an additional amount, when the full amount exceeding the total rental price + RM500.00 deposit was already charged.
The whole process and potential for overcharging left me very dubious as to how the rentals process was conducted at this centre. That's why I wanted to write this post, so that if further such practices are experienced by other rental clients, then it can be established without a doubt that the practices here are indeed questionable.
The staff member was quite helpful in trying his best to tidy the car, but armed with only a dry rag, there was very little that could be done to dust the inside.
