A tiny place owned by an eccentric gentleman. The Birdcage is situated at walking distance from Jonker, indeed a hidden gem among the bustling streets of downtown Melaka.
During weekends you might not be able to get a spot and might be told off due to the busy schedule. If you see his gate closed, then he might be off for the day.
On some other days you might just be lucky and get to try the raspberry torte he makes the same day. (This cake seems to have a cult following now, so before it gets too in-demand, try it out).
As any place in or around Jonker, parking will be difficult on peak hours, on other times there’s plenty surrounding this spot.
Photos and freshly baked cake smells are tenant privileges after renting his airbnb at the second level of the cafe for a couple days.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My first time visit and was amazed at how the relationship between the boss and the customers there, the customers were so friendly and will help to serve other customers when the boss was busy.
Nice place to hang out ☺️

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Coffee is amazing, perfect ratio of bitterness and sweet. Location is a bit tricky to find from outside as there is not signage unless you enter the cafe. Ambience very cosy. Rated 4 because there was no food available when i visit ☹️ will go there again !

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A hidden gem you must visit during Melaka trip. Need to check on their Instagram before you visit (operating hours). The boss really friendly and funny, will definitely visit the cafe to try out other food especially the raspberry ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very friendly boss, prices are friendly, items on the menu will depend what is available on the day. The best place to go for mango pavlova, scones and raspberry torte. Very occasionally boss will provide meals so is best not to harap to much. In a good way.
