A hidden jem away from the bustling life of the city on a hilltop next to the Air Itam Dam (reservoir). Breathe fresh cool unpolluted air amid a clear view of the city below. Small but well keep temple of Bodhisattva Kuan Yin, Tai Siong Loh Koon, Ma Chor Po and several Taoist deities. This temple is also known as the Cheng Jee Chan temple (1200 steps temple in hokkien). Used the road besides the Kek Lok Si temple to reach this awesome place. This wooden temple is said to be build around a century ago and whether you believe or not, not a single nail was used in the construction. I believes that the surrounding will enthrilled you travelling up on a narrow stretch of winding road built entirely by donation without any assistance from the local government or any other agencies. Worth you time spending up this unique place.

Hiked here with some friends a few weeks before MCO 3.0 hit. We went up from the cemetery area and the 1200 steps were quite slippery to be honest, but overall the view and stuff was ok. The gate accessing from the stairs was lock due to covid regulations but the alternate gate (able to access from Air Itam dam) was fully opened. I was quite sad to forgot to bring incense stick to pray there, the incense stick sold there was quite expensive hahaha

Popularly known as Cheng Ji Chan among the local Penang people. It is a very beautiful and well-maintained temple situated on the hills in Paya Terubong. It is a hive of activities during the Kew Ong Yeah festival, open 24 hours during the period. There are 2 ways to get to this temple. One can drive up along the road, Jalan Penara, behind Kek Lok Si Temple in Air Itam. Alternatively, one can hike up to the temple from Paya Terubong, passing through a Chinese cemetery and private durians orchards. Just follow the granite slab stairs and it will lead you to the temple. It will take about 1½ hours on a leisure pace.
