Varieties of food ( junk foods) especially 'jeruk' but don't know whether it 'halal' or not because majority of the sellers are Chinese. Except for Jeruk Pak Ali ;)

This is Penang's downtown wet Market. It is now fully open and rather busy in the mornings, especially on the weekends. You can find all kinds of vegies, meats, fish, prawns and dry foodstuff there. Parking is quite ample too at the carpark in the market.

Clean, well manage and not smelly market anymore. But what i love the most is the plenty preloved books from the bookshops upstairs. They have a huge collection of books for sale! ❀

At the time of visit, the market appears clean. The main reason for going there was to buy the β€œjeruk buah” or pickled preserved fruits, of which Penang is famous for. This was an alternative to the more famed pickled fruit brand next door. We avoided it as the queue into the shop was long and appeared packed from outside. In this time of Covid, avoiding it would be wise. This time, not a single fly was seen hovering around the famed food of Penang.

Chowrasta market never loses its charm over the years. The market complex has been modernized. There is a quaint little glutton square with a good selection of food stalls. Tried the Kari mee which is very decent in terms of quality and taste.

Still a nostalgic morning market for early risers as the sought after noodle stalls close by 10 am. It is less busy now as the inner city population shrinks and few urban shoppers wake early on weekends. Still the early bird catches the worm, if that's your thing!

Very good market with cool food. Like the toast bread available, like the dim sum and coffee. Take your time to walk around the street, you will find many hidden treasures and good food not spotted by Google maps. The streets are easy to walk and navigate, but prices are generally cheap. Some days you might see a live chicken in the market. The streets are quite easy to walk. Don't do it in the afternoon. Come early in the morning to enjoy it
