β β β β β Came to KL sentral ticketing counter at 10.43pm on 27 jan 2020 and the officer at the counter refused to process the refund for tickets and asked me to return the next day! When i am already physically standing in front of her. So ridiculous

β β β β β Train is fine but the model of selling ticket is just over inefficient. Tickets are only released a month before travel date, probably the management still live in old age mentality of people walking in, buying tickets and boarding the train immediately. And by the time you go buy the tickets, most of the time tickets are sold out. Train commuting is so convenient and easy overseas but in Malaysia, it just sucks.

β β β β β If you want to make sure your travels are well planned, and you get the train that you want, you might be better off booking ahead on their website. Otherwise, you can come by this counter.
First, you head to the information counter and inform the staff what train you wish to take. You will then be given a queue number. Wait for your number to be called and then go up to confirm the tickets and make payment. I was requested for my passport as it seems that they tag the ticket to your name.

β β β β β Not much choice. It's the only train service provider in Malaysia. Online ticketing needs major revamp. Should have a booking system like the airlines. You can book early... Way before the one month period currently imposed now to allow patrons to plan and purchase their tickets early.
There are two types of trains ie the older and latest ETS coaches. If you board the older coaches, food sold on theses coaches is expensive. Hot water cost RM0.50 if you bring you own cup noodle on board. A cup of beverage like Milo cost RM 3 per cup. A heated up frozen meal like nasi lemak is RM 8.00 per tray. All in if you eat a heated up frozen meal with a hot drink is between RM 11-15 depending what you would like to eat. The air conditioning is blasting cold and strong. Do bring your thick jacket or blanket along.
However if you board the latest ETS coaches, you may find your Milo and cup noodles RM 0.20 cheaper. Hot water is free of charge. The cabins' temperature is maintained at 22 degree Celsius which may be warmer in crowded or fully occupied ones.

β β β β β Now they are providing ticket machine where people can buy ETS tickets at the machine , hence reducing the need to buy the ticket at the counter. nevertheless, only credit card/debit card is acceptable. person who brings cash, just proceed to take the queue number and pay at the counter

β β β β β Seamless journey from KL to Butterworth, you can book your ticket online, journey to Butterworth will take approximately 4 hours.
I was on Platinum coach, seat pitching and legroom quite comfortable.
Officer manning the coach is polite and professional.
Clean toilet and thereβs a prayer room for Muslim travellers.
Book your ticket early and enjoy the beautiful view of Malaysiaβs country side.
Job well done KTMB!
