I purchased a rod from the so called "great" Ono at Jalan Barat in Kuala Lumpur just recently to discover I was sold a defective rod which paid a great deal for. On my first fishing experience with the fishing rod the rod snapped into 3 pieces. In theory the line i was using which was more than suitable for the rod should have snapped first even if the fish was massive in weight, which was not the case. This rod I was sold was defective as you can see from the break in the joint area near the line guide. if you are a rod builder or do a bit of research, a fishing rod would snap if a line guide is over tightened on the rod blank. It is more than clear that is was why it easily snapped. In fact the rod broke into three pieces not just two??? I have never in my life seen a fishing rod shatter like that. I went to return the rod thinking I was dealing with an honest and respectful business. This was not the case. The older gentleman refused to replace the rod or even assist in sorting the matter out. He was just rude and shouting, he was even using foul language in Malay which he thought I didn't understand because I was a foreigner. He even accused me of intentionally snapping the rod!!!! I couldn't believe his reaction and the way I was treated. I have never been more insulted. There was a younger sales person who even admitted that the rod was faulty and was trying to explain this to the older gentlemen who was just angry and continuing to be rude in Malay. A message to the OWNER, you may know something about fishing but you certainly know nothing about customer service and satisfaction. Money seems to be more important to you. By the way, don't ever be rude to someones mother especially when they are talking to you politely. Great experience from an Aussie Tourist....

β β β β β I had a really great experience here. I came in with two new conventional Penn reels (bought elsewhere) that I wanted spooled. Was also looking for some advice on trolling and what leaders and lures would be appropriate.
An older gentleman named Jimmy served me. He was very knowledgeable and gave useful advice on line weight and setup to catch Mahi Mahi and sailfish. I even bought a trolling rod.
The shop looks a little bit tired but they are well stocked with lots of little goodies. Their reel selection is very good even carrying Penn Internationals and Avet (Made in USA) reels.
Got my reels spooled, a rod, some leaders, lures as well as some hooks at the shop. These older shops are a real gem to KL as the newer shops tend to be more commercial angled. Pop in even if just for a conversation! Absolutely full of character.
I got lots of tips on reel maintenance too.
