โ โ โ โ โ If you use Waze and when you arrive at your destination, you won't be able to see the restaurant. Keep going straight for 5m and turn right. You will see a blue sign board that says "Pembina Badan Lori". Go straight and the restaurant is there. I got lost looking for it.
The steamed fish is their powerhouse here. Soft, fluffy and moist. My sister in law who is quite picky with fish dishes exclaimed that she loved it for the attributes I mentioned above. Their steamed fish comes with 5 different types of style. Other tai chau dishes are also available there. Bagus bagus bagus.

โ โ โ โ โ Let me think how to write this post - this restaurant has been in my must-try list for quite a long time and the timing couldn't be better when we were about to head back to hometown one day and it was already dinner time. We called ahead and they said "no booking allowed" but we still proceed to the restaurant.
Waze took me through some rather obscure industrial area and when I finally stopped in front of this restaurant which looked like a makeshift hut (built entirely using zinc and wood), I realised parking was another problem. When I finally sat down, we quickly ordered the dishes as we wanted to finish everything asap.
โพsteamed tilapia - their signature dish and you could literally spot one on every table. Few cooking styles are available - 1) steamed with soy sauce & Chinese wine; 2) their signature style using bird eye chilly, garlic and ginger; 3) steamed tilapia with minced ginger; and 4) asam tilapia. We wanted to let the kids to try the fish so we went for the former.. tilapia meat was fresh, the soy sauce was very good but sadly I tasted the muddy taste. Perhaps other style would be able to mask this taste.
โพvinegar pork trotter - not as thick as we wanted it to be, and the pork trotter still has that foul smell.
โพSalted egg yolk homemade beancurd - easily the favourite dish of the day. Love the texture of the beancurd (mixed with fish) and the savouriness from the salted egg yolk.
โพ Buttermilk chicken - decent dish and the curry powder was evident.
โพ5 heavenly king - for some reason I love this dish
โพStir fried cabbage with dried shrimp
โพHakka five spiced pork with black fungus - we tapao this dish back home and found that the fat meat was more than the lean ones.
In fairness, I saw a lot of other patrons enjoying the fish. I wish to say the same too and I was struggling to find the right term.. the execution was perfect and the meat was fresh no doubt but the presence of the muddy taste really marred the experience. I grew up eating river fish so even slight mud taste would put me off. Word of advise - choose other methods of cooking such as ginger, asam or others but not the soy sauce.

โ โ โ โ โ Hidden hole-in-the-wall with very fresh signature steamed tilapia. The fish was cooked to perfection: soft, fluffy, and not a second overcooked. The special bean paste-ginger sauce brought out the natural sweetness of the fish even more. The XO petai we ordered was a superb accompaniment to the fish too, so fragrantly fried with dried shrimp - look at the generous amount of stinky bean! Very reasonable prices. Definitely worth a trip.
