โ โ โ โ โ The Retreat is situated in a wonderful part of Langkawi and we understand the owner would have seen it as a great place to start a business but it's firstly a residential area. Unfortunately, we do not appreciate when the motel is fully booked out with large groups over 20 people (often company retreats) and the owner or manager is no where in sight or on the property. Please note we tried to call the number given but ultimately had to drive over on 2 separate occasions to ask for noise levels to be turned down. We fully believe the retreat is a place for couples and families to enjoy the quiet scenery and tranquil atmosphere of the paddy fields but when large groups blast their music, party with speaker phones and are loud throughout the night, we find this very disrespectful towards the neighbours and community. As a resident, I hope the owner understands that his guests must respect the community and people who truly call Langkawi their home.
We felt we had to take this action as we have not had any response when tried to previously contact through phone.

โ โ โ โ โ My friends and I stayed at Horbill Retreat for 3 nights during our Langkawi trip and it was great! We booked the place through Airbnb. Location description was accurate and the host was great to interact with. We reached the place on an afternoon and the caretaker handled everything seamlessly. We had the keys to our rooms in 5 mins.
The place is located next to paddy fields in a calm and serene environment. No traffic, no crowd. Its a peaceful place to stay at. Swimming pool is very well maintained and has room temperature water. Rooms were clean, spacious and very well maintained. Decor is simplistic.
The place does not serve food, but there is a kitchen setup where you can cook on your own. Bread, egg, butter, jam and such easy to make items are available in the refrigerator.
Caretaker was helpful. He communicated with us in broken english and was were friendly.
Definitely recommended.

โ โ โ โ โ Love the place! Kampung style environment. Good room, even better than standard hotel. 3-in-1 drink and maggi are available in every room. Bread and egg are given too! Kitchen is place for gathering. It is good for company retreat and team building.

โ โ โ โ โ Stayed in Langkawi for 2 weeks, based on the pictures, Hornbill Retreat was the place I was really looking forward to staying. The other two places we stayed at was amazing, only good things to say about those accommodations.
Sadly, I was very disappointed with Hornbill Retreat. If you like somewhere to host pool & drinking parties with your buddies for a night or two this is the place for you, a place to crash after partying then this place is great but if you are a couple looking for a retreat to chill and relax I donโt recommend Hornbill.
There was a pool party that went on until 12am. The cleanliness of the room was below standard. Dust, insects, centipede in my bed, lizards (dead and alive) were everywhere. The location was ok.

โ โ โ โ โ With all the travel restrictions in place in Malaysia it is impossible to stay at this villa - booking was made and only 50% cancellation was honoured by the owner. This is totally unacceptable, given the current climate with regards to travel. Do NOT book unless a full refund is honoured for cancellations. Very disappointing that FONG would not make this consideration for a booking held on May 28th 2021.

โ โ โ โ โ Lovely rooms, a newly built complex so the taxi drivers have difficulty in finding it just show them the google map location and this should resolve it. We didnโt meet the owner the person they have looking after the place is a little on the quiet side (perhaps just a language barrier) heโs not very welcoming. On our first night people were out partying at the pool area until gone 10.30pm, not quite the retreat we thought it was!

โ โ โ โ โ What an amazing find this place was for us. It's tucked away in a lovely quiet location overlooking Paddy Fields, but yet it's only a gentle 15 minute stroll to the beach areas and all the facilities there. Hornbill Retreat has a fabulous pool that we had entirely to ourselves and an excellent outdoor kitchen and dining area you have full access to. The rooms are very well appointed with a lovely big comfy bed and they are spotlessly clean. We thoroughly recommend this place and we would not hesitate to come back here.

โ โ โ โ โ Room dirty with dust, hair, crumbs, old kids toys, and dead animals. Mostly behind the headbed (which is made out of rough pallets). Bedbugs and other insects in the bed.
The pictures were taken after the extra round of cleaning.
If you go on the weekend expect loud music and pool parties till late in the night.
Location is OK. Definitely overpriced.
