Best Palace in Malaysia

G	Gary Lee on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A really interesting building with some amazing architecture. Istana Alaeddin was the official residence of the 5th Sultan of Selangor, who ruled 1898-1938. The palace is highly unique with two entrances, & its architecture a combination of local, Moorish, Indian, Middle Eastern & Chinese influences. Located in Kampung Sungai Langat, the palace is now also known as Istana Bandar. Entrance is free, just drive in and park, register at the guardhouse, and you are free to explore the entire building on your own. The only criticism is that the condition could be better, with the paint looking rather tired and some windows were broken. Also, there is a lack of information in the actual building itself, like what are the rooms used for, how it looked like back in the time of the Sultan, etc. Even old photographs of how life looked like in the Palace back in the day would have been fantastic. But overall, a must visit if you're a history buff and especially so if you live in the Klang Valley.

It is a bit bare with no deco and furniture pieces but the architectural structure is well maintained and quietness of the Palace really echo the vastness of space. It's like we can really feel the cultural and significance of the Palace in its heyday.. A truly remarkable piece of history..

Short description at main entry on history of the place. U are allowed to visit interior, no description so imagination required on how majestic the place would have been a century back.

It might look abandoned from far, but its still well maintained once you actually tour around the site. Apparently, it has about 40 rooms that bears Indian and Chinese architectural elements. The intricate carvings and sculptures on the walls were carved by Chinese artisans. This has also made it popular for wedding and photography shoots.

The cleanliness of the palace area is well maintained, only the building needs extra care because it is old so some of the wood floor has broken. It is an interesting place to visit, but don't expect for any exhibition materials because the building is empty.

The architecture of the Palace reflects the rich cultural heritage of this land and preservation of these sites will enable tourists to appreciate the beauty of Malaysia. More information about the Palace should be researched and displayed as currently, there is not enough information about how the Palace was used in the different sections with courtyards and all. We can only guess and imagine... The place however is well taken care of and clean. Kudos to that! The guard at the gate entrance was very friendly and pleasant. I forgot to ask for his name. Do not forget to visit the Jugra museum and the lighthouse nearby too.
