傳說他對於病理醫術有相當深的研究，又精於岐黃，是一位神醫，甚至可以使人起死回生。 保生大帝著有內外科醫書十三卷傳世，後人感念他的德澤，建廟供奉祭拜。 不但一般人有難治的病，會到廟裡去求他，醫生及藥商更奉祂為守護神，祀之甚為虔誠。
如何拜保生大帝？
熟的五牲、菜碗、清茶三小杯、酒三或五小杯、紅龜粿、圓形粿、發粿、紮紅紙的麵線、紅圓三碗。
平時祭拜則備以水果、糕餅即可。
祭拜程序：
1.上供
2.點燭
3.神前獻茶、酒
4.焚香迎神(一或三柱香)並祈求平安，香燒至三分之一時，雙手奉持金紙拜供神明。

2.light candles
3. Tea and wine offered before God
4. Burn incense to God (one or three pillars) and pray for peace. When the incense burns to one third, hold the golden paper with both hands to worship the god.
