โ โ โ โ โ Stroll back in time to the famous authentic Hainanese cuisine once served at Yit Kheng Kee @Kimberley Street for 30 years, now revived by his scion in honour of Chef Ong, Senior(fondly known as Ah Jim), a close relative of the reknown Chuan family who brought Colonial style Sunday set brunches at Eden on Hutton Lane during my childhood. Still a hidden gem located on this new stretch of renovated shophouses destined as a hotel by its new Singaporean owner, the small cafe can easily be mistaken as a fusion bar. Like all great Hainanese culinary arts fast disappearing from Penang's table in step with the follies of Eden and Chicken rice, it is no small feat to preserve the best kept secrets of Hainanese Char. The yellow noodle dish(RM10.90) presents itself al dente in a light meaty seafood broth highlighted by fragrant fried shallots, accompanied with a piquant homemade sambal.
