★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 4 1/2 stars actually. Excellant service. Dedicated and attentive staffs. Beautiful scenery and surroundings. Delicious meals. Would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the mosquitoes (in all fairness, almost nothing could be done about them). Would definitely be back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are things people need to know.
There are two good points at the hotel - the location is great and the staff are very friendly.
There are some things Malaysian tourism have got to understand.
You are coming to Malihom with a purpose of serene and relaxed environment. But then you hear leaf blower for 2 days in a row right at your ears for hours in the morning while you are relaxing at the pool. Just to clarify - the sound is a huge drill sound. It’s honestly unacceptable. It feels like someone is drilling your brain.
The room is ok, the toilet is unacceptable again.
The toilet and bath are very outdated, and you gotta be careful with your toilet needs as it doesn’t properly flush.
Water tap streams are externally damaged and there is no hot water in the room. I mean you get 5 minutes of warm water to maybe quickly wash yourself. The place has a bathtub- no chance you can enjoy that as there is not enough of warm water to fill it up. There is a kettle in the room, you might just use that.
For the price you should be able to expect hot water, a flushing toilet and not listening to a leaf blower circling the facility in the morning. The reality of this place is it in a world class location with incredible views. It is let down by infrastructure that does not match the price they charge. No one should have to stand by the toilet and hope to the gods it’ll flush the devil away after the 5th attempt!
A common sense approach to maintenance is needed eg taps, shower heads, toilet seats need regular replacement. This place should be a complete upgrade from your daily life and unfortunately in many areas it is missing the mark.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We just did one night and will go back . Some comments. Chalet is 'boutique rustic' rather than luxurious. Location is great and we felt we were 'away' ( our home is only 30km away). The views are great, the staff friendly but the F&B needs some attention. With a bit more training and effort this could be really great.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The place is beautiful, perfect for resting staycation. Had adorable cats to keep you company. Dedicated staff.
Was not very happy with the full boarding menu. Save for breakfast, food served was frankly tasted below average with no other alternative option. Bring your own food that would be suggestion.
Told then in advance about allergies and food restrictions. Had the discussion 3 times. No action was taken. Food was still served with plenty of ingredients that trigger allergies.
Common area and room was not regularly cleaned and sanitize.
I would go again, but won’t take the full boarding and bring my own food. Bring own sanitizer as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The staff were alert and friendly, very helpful. I've made 2 trips here, once in 2019 and the second time was this weekend. The first visit I stayed at the Khanun barn and this time at Aloun. Both were similar in amenities and structure. Khanun was slightly larger and the deck was more spacious. I preferred it to Aloun, but not by too much. Aloun is still a pretty good choice if Khanun is unavailable. They both have a bathtub and king sized beds with hammocks on the decks. Khanun's deck has a more unobstructed view and the room is larger. Water heater has to be turned on like a half hour in advance for you to get enough hot water to fill the bathtub, but I don't mind. Just turn it on before dinner and when you're back, it's all good. The tub in Khanun back then had a leaky plug so water was still slowly draining away even with the plug pushed down. Aloun's tub during my latest trip had no such issues. But the wooden blinds were kinda broken and we couldn't roll it up to enjoy the view. Hope these little things can be given a little extra attention by the maintenance crew.
While other guests seem to have struggled with mosquitoes, I was attacked by a cicada haha. No mosquito woes for me though. Ants, aplenty. Yes, I would love it if there weren't any insect troubles to begin with, but if you want to be away from the city and bask in nature, insects come with the package. That's how the ecosystem works. You want forestry, you must have birds, and birds need insects. Circle of life.
I would actually rate this place 4.5 instead of a full 5 if I could. Mainly because of the food situation. I booked the romantic escape package which comes with dinner, and all bookings have a complimentary breakfast. On top of that, I ordered a birthday cake. Everything except the birthday cake tasted great but I wished there were more meat dishes and ingredients. Also if we could have chosen the menu or cuisine, that would have been better. For foreigners, namely Westerners, they might want the Malaysian homecooking experience, which is what MaliHom provides. But for Malaysians, it was a little disappointing to come for a "romantic escape" and be fed curry chicken and vegetable stir fry. Breakfast was also meatless. Delicious scrambled eggs and chickpea/spinach thing, but I would appreciate some ham or bacon on my plate to start my day. And why this is such a big issue is because of how difficult it is to drive down the hill and back up just to go looking for food elsewhere. I also don't want my relaxation interrupted by a trip into balik pulau heat/noise/traffic/dust.
All that said, come here for a break from the city and to just be able to sit around aimlessly without guilt. There isn't anything to do except walk about taking in the view or chill in the hammocks/tub reading etc. So if you are looking for anything to do except relaxing, this ain't it. This place is a reset button for the pains of adulthood. Which is why people should probably not bring young children along. My recent visit was wrecked by noisy kids running about and exploring too near our barn at 9am. Too near our open air bathroom. Came all the way uphill for some peace and privacy, you know?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ nice view, fresh weather, excellent hosting, prepare your car for steep uphill, and use traffic light system for enter and exit. experience driver is preferable.
prepare for your own dinner or can request your dinner from Malihom, its abit dangerous for going out during night time for the downhill.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Close to nature private stay, feels like the estate owner invited you to a private tour of its own place.
If you book your accommodation via tour page or website, make sure you enquire first with them as the selected room cannot be changed, which means custom things cannot be done such as if you request to change two single bed into one queen bed, they won’t entertain these kind of requests.
The drive up here is bizarre, narrow roads, steep hills, not for the weak, old vehicles. Challenging for newbie drivers and big vehicles. Be super considerate about this point, it could be very scary. Also if you come in a group, please drive as less vehicle as possible (carpool pls!) as they have limited parking slot.
Room is old and not well maintained but if you are not picky, you will live with it. Don’t expect hotel standards as they are not one. Cleanliness wise, it is good. Luxurious? No. If you are wondering, yes they have hot showers and airconditioning. Again, please check if you room has an attached bathroom because my friend can’t use their room to shower but need to leave their room and go one floor down, every single time for their shower which is a external bath. They hated it. Mine was not.
Get away from the city hustle and enjoy the time here on various ‘attractions’, the pool, the hiking trails, the restaurant or dining area lookout point, and etc. Those are the real gem part of this place.
The last note, don’t come here if you cannot accept bugs / wildlife. You will SCREAM. ?
