Due to Covid-19 pandemic, I hardly visit Queensball Mall and so I am not aware of how many shops closed down or new shops opened since Covid. So this Nasi Kukus Tonggek is one of the few new food stalls opened and I decided to give it a try. Instead of opting for the standard ayam goreng, I decided to go with the gigantic fried squid aka sotong goreng besar! It is a shame I need to pack and eat at home because I can only imagine how much nicer it will be when eaten fresh on the spot, with the big squid just freshly deep fried and hence the crunchy feeling. The accompanying curry gravy and the chilli paste is the real killer or differentiator here. I love the curry gravy especially, quite lemak but overall is very nice to my liking. It is not really spicy for me so I get to put a lot of the curry gravy on top of rice and then just mix it up with rice and a bit of the fried squid. Mmmmmmmm, simply delicious! Worth giving it a try but the price is a bit on the high side. My giant squid option cost me about RM18, but it is cheaper if you get the fried chicken option. Will I try again? Yes, without a doubt but most likely will just buy and try the fried chicken option in future.

Ridiculous price for the amount of rice and chicken. Everything was cold, cold and cold. Spices not cooked properly, chicken was hard and cold. Salted egg tasted like salt and butter with cheap oil emulsion. Day light robbery, modern day roberry. I don't know what to call it!!! People, if you are going to Queensbay for food please just eat D'Laksa. Worth the money and better experience for your mouth and tummy. You wallet will be happy too.

From ads to reality , I’ve seen a lot of ads of Nasi tonggek online but this is the first physical store I spotted and I went right away to give a try . ☺️ I purchased Nasi Tonggek with Ayam Goreng which cost me RM9.90 . ?Price is reasonable and quantity was alright . Coming to the food , they served it in a tin which has rice , curry in it and topping with chicken serving I chose . They told me to shake it 5 times for the food to fully come out of the tin and I followed . ? The rice for me for pretty much sticky something more like nasi lemak , the curry was sweeter than spicy and fried chicken was the standard one . They gave their special Sambal which was spicy but had the raw chilli taste . Pretty much didn’t find anything outstanding about the meal but for the pricing in a mall it’s alright ?? They might have better sets like the one with the giant squid but since I didn’t try it I don’t know .
