Had a selection of dim sum - siew mai, money bags, crystal dumpling and salted egg custard bun and would give it a 4/5. But we’d give the 5 spice braised duck a solid 5/5! The flavour is unique - an acquired taste. Portion is enough to share between two people, we loved this dish and would recommend to anyone coming here. Aside from the food, the staffs were accommodating. Ambience is great though it is kinda dark, had a hard time trying to read the menu ?

So I have to say that my experience in this restaurant is quite painful. Firstly, the food was mediocre although very well presented. Secondly, the staff was constantly harassing us to clear our cups and cutlery eventhough we weren't done, it felt like they were trying to get rid of us as fast as possible. Honestly, the restaurant is so dark as well. Perhaps others may like it, however I didn't enjoy it.

Nice ambience. Very dark hence pictures turn out nice. Salmon laksa - laksa is nice, salmon is extremely fishy so I just took a bite. Crab cakes taste like normal bun with tuna filling. Drinks are okay. Parking is hard considering the place is in the road full of clubs. The waiters are not sure whether the meat source is halal and they claim that the place has no alcohol even though the menu is full of liquor which is quite funny. Price is not justified due to the food taste. In short - I won’t return. Thanks.

It looks really nice, and I really like how dishes and drinks are served. Booking this place was convenient to do, and it was nice to not have to wait for space. That said, I agree with the sentiment expressed here that things here look better than they taste. My favourite dish here was the chicken satay (RM25) - that was amazing. After having that, I was really excited to have the main dishes. I got the curry spaghettini with salmon and the opium wanton mee - the salmon didn't mesh well with the curry spaghettini (which by itself was quite nice), and the wanton mee tasted too "clean" - it needed a stronger sauce or heat to really work. It is possible that other dishes here are better - I just didn't try them on this visit.

Good food, even better company. Staff can do with more training on waiting finesse. Some of them looked unhappy and did not even bother explaining the dishes. Food was good though. The dumplings were packed with flavour, albeit an extremely small portion. Lemongrass skewers were fragrant and well marinated. My favourite would be the set with the bamboo. Served in a bamboo shoot, the soup was the perfect blend of spicy and sour. A must order. You also get free valet parking if you park at the viva building. Valet parking attendant was quite demanding on getting a top though. Which we would have done anyway but being asked explicitly for a tip is a bit rude, I'm sure Old Shanghai pays them for their valet services. ??‍♀️ Would come again.

Since Food, drink are all looks beautiful, those are good for taking photo and posting instagram something but taste very normal. Beer is served by pot and plate, it's interesting but not good for drinking. Frozen cocktails are served with very beautiful looks but those are also not good for drinking. Recommend only for the people who wants to enjoy taking photos.

Deco and food was good, beers was very expensive :) The name suggest a Chinese touch and feel of this restaurant. Located at Changkat Bukit Bintang, this area are known to be frequent by tourists and hence the higher pricing. On food menu are mainly Chinese food, some dim sum and bar snacks. We tried the fried chicken wings and calamari, both were good. On the drinks menu, the Old Shanghai probably has one of widest Chinese wine selections in town as well as lots of cocktail to choose from. We opted for Heineken draft beers (RM 31) that served in Chinese wine bottle. Drinking from a Chinese bowl, it gives a fun and nostalgic feels.

This was my first time going back to The Old Shanghai since the pandemic. We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Am so glad that we went! The atmosphere was simply perfect. You’re transported into a relaxed, cosy, warm atmosphere. The service was also excellent. Staff were friendly and rather obliging. Perfect! The highlight of course was the food. The food was nothing short of amazing. My friends and I really loved the flavours and the presentation. Portions were also just perfect. We’re definitely going back there soon!
