★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A flagrant example of commercializing a temple setting w/cheap-looking souvenir stores selling gaudy trinkets. The awe-inspiring limestone cave setting is marred by silly depictions of hindu mythological characters interspersed along the way in the rock formations. If they were statues made of bronz or carved of rock, it would be more appealing and also serve to elevate the setting. However, to me, the statues look cheap and detract from any semblance of "nice" or of an acceptable aesthetic form. The whole place needs a re-do without the crazy looking colors painted everywhere. It also needs to be elevated to an exalted place of worship with complementary architecture that enhances the magnificent and majestic cave that mother nature has created.
From a tourist destination point of view...my opinion, it's not worth your time visiting.
If I had to mention the best part of the visit, I'd say the ubiquitous and rather cute monkeys we witnessed while climbing the stairs were the highlight.
