Seafood is fresh and tasty. Worth the trip. Most importantly, not pricey.

Segenting is said to be the oldest Chinese settlement in Batu Pahat. The early Chinese coming from China arrived in the coastal area of this town and chose to settled in this village before moving out to the city centre gradually. Driving through the narrow road leading into the new village, I took my time to look at the kampung life as I grew up in kampung as well. We had to park our cars in any available spots, and then walk a short distance to reach this popular seafood restaurant that is extended out to the sea. My customer is already a regular here by the time we joined in the project, and it was his treat all the time. This post is a culmination of my several trips down to Batu Pahat which explains the numerous dishes described below. ◾fresh and huge sea fish.. we had a pomfret (dau dai chong) so big that it fits for a wedding bouquet, something that is not easily available here. Also one fish that it looks like coming straight out of Alien movie (look at its head). ◾Chilly crabs that any discerning foodie will approve. Fresh mud crab equivalent to XXL size drenched in the spicy and eggy chilly sauce, complete with deep fried manitou for dipping purpose. We had to ask the cook to cut down on the generous chilly (too spicy!) ◾Kam heong lala (clams) - again too generous on the bird eye chilly making the dish too hot for some. However, no complaints on the plump and juicy clams. ◾Kung bou dishes - we had both squid and mantis shrimp and loved both to the max! ◾Prawns - first we had it steamed with Chinese wine and egg white and it's original taste shone! On our subsequent visits, we had deep fried versions and although good, I still prefer steaming. ◾Claypot pork belly with salted fish - lacked the fragrant of salted fish but generally tasty. ◾Steamed whole kampung chicken - loved the herbal soups but the kampung chicken meat was tougher (which was normal if you compared to regular chicken) ◾Sweet and sour fish fillet - while the fish meat was firm and flaky, the sauce somehow lacked the oomph. ◾Cantonese style fried noodle and kuey teow! The noodles definitely got the essential wok hei, covered in the eggy gravy and topped with fresh little prawns and other seafoods. ◾Fish slice porridge... This was clearly the favourite among all of us. Perfect comfort food with the flavourful soup ◾Oyster omelette - lack in amount but the oysters were fresh nonetheless. ◾Taufu and vegetable dishes are essential in almost every meal. Prices of the seafood here are generally cheaper than eating in town area, and you will have to drive about 20-30 minutes to reach Segenting from the town centre. For me, the company coupled with the awesome wines and other types of liquors such as gins and whiskies definitely got everyone happy.
