★ ★ ★ ★ ★ SK Datuk Wan Idris, was formerly known as Sekolah Inggeris Rendah Segamat(SIRS)
It was a premier primary English school in Segamat.
The school excelled academically, in sports and games.The sports and games are equivalent to those found in secondary schools !
The teachers were very dedicated and caring!
It had Express Classes : i.e. the pupils in Year 1, after their final term exams and they excel , they will be placed in Cerdas 1( Express 1) and from there after every year end exams if they do well, they will be placed into Express2 and then Year 4 ,Year 5 and finally Year 6. This means they finished their Primary school in 5 years. In the mean time, the other pupils would follow the normal class.
Parents like to send their children to the school because it saves time, even though it was just a year's difference! The school's enrolment swells.
Then politics crept in! The District Education Officer started to send the good teachers out to the most remote schools and brought out all the rots to take over the vacancies.
The school's enrolment from about more than 2000 dropped and dropped! The final straw that breaks the camel's back was, " ....from next year onwards, there won't be any Year One in ........"
All the parents protested and protested. At long last , after a month or so, he announced that only those new Year 1 students who have brothers/sisters studying in the school, could study there. But by then, those desperate parents had already enrolled their children to another lesser school!
At last , the school was left with about 100 pupils despite all the propaganda and campaigns - but it won't work !
