The Barat Tioman Beach Resort

First day ride hilux , passenger sit rear compartment spent half of hours come to beach from pier very danger trip because hill tilted . But the room is clean but without water heater , aircond need 2hours refrigeration , restaurant staff was friendly and food nice , but BBQ set is not worth it. But the hotel rule 10am check out , the tranport ride arrange at afternoon 1.30pm only available taking us out , that mean we need to sit at waiting area 3.5 hours without any entertainment . Last , outside reception staff super friendly everything can do for us.

Everything is fine. But the sand flies at the beach is quite severe. My friend got quite a number of bites on the hands and legs. I was lucky to have just a few bites around my hand and lower leg as I wore fully covered swim suit for a day of three. I hope the resorts and government could make it better by fogging the beach. Thank you.

Good stay and experience We stayed in Barat for 4 days and 3 nights, during the Chinese New Year holidays. We used all modes of transport to reach the resort, flight to reach Johor bahru, then a bus to reach Mersing jetty, then a ferry to reach Tioman Island and finally another 30-45min ride on a 4x4 vehicle. We crossed our fingers all through the journey, hoping the resort matches our efforts to reach the place and the money we spent until then. Because of a surf festival that's going on , during the first day of our stay, the place was buzzing with many surfers, music, and announcements of competition. We enjoyed watching finals of all the categories, which inspired us to eventually try Bodyboard. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Fresh towels , shower gel and shampoo are provided. Beds and linens were clean. Deluxe rooms had 2 Queen sized beds which were quite big for 2 people, it will be good for families with kids. Hot water was available throughout the day. The restaurant in the resort was open 7am to 10pm , providing all meals of the day. Portion size of the food is quite big and satisfying. Food is not part of room booking, so we pay for all meals. We didn't have to try at any other place, because food was tasty and many varieties were available to choose from. They support Vegan or vegetarian requests to alter the dishes. Mobile Network is fluctuating, which is expected because of the remoteness of the place. The resort provides a WiFi, speed inversely proportional to people using it. On the day of surf festival , we couldn't access WiFi, but it got better afterwards. The beach right in front of the resort is a very long one with a good deal of waves. Because of big waves, we didn't dare to kayak near the shore. Shoreline is very wide for playing volleyball and other games. The resort is providing packages for snorkelling trips.Tad bit disappointed here, Snorkelling experience was not the best, 3/5 only, not as good as what we experienced in Perhentian and Redang Islands. One day , we ventered out for a short hike in search of the water fall. It's the excess water flowing from Dam above. Mini fall, but refreshing to play in fresh water as the days were very hot. Cycles can be rented from resort, which is also an interesting activity to do. We cycled to Juara Village, the closest village. Enjoy your stay at Barat.

Barat Resort is stated as a 4 stars resort. However, it's guest experience feels like a 2 stars or 1 star hotel. Check out timing is 10am in the morning. No extension was given even though request to fit our ferry timing at 12 noon. 1.Room service During our first day, no room service was provided. We had to go down to the reception area and give them the key(apparently only 1 set of key). We gave them the only key and instructed them to provide fresh towels. Note: The room service only available on 2pm. 2. Resort Service Staff They can be forgetful. Occasionally, they tend to forget certain requests. The reception was not accomodating enough. Our ferry timing was delayed but the staff insist and wanted us to leave the resort early just to save another car trip because apparently we are sharing with another group of people. One of the staff's attitude is unhelpful. 3. Room condition We booked the partial beach view room which supposed to be the highest tier type. The toilet door wasn't properly seal which leads to insects flying into the room. The phone isn't functioning, the jacuzzi hot water wasn't functioning, shower head in poor condition and soap dispenser is faultu. We are only given 4 bottles of drinking water during the first check in. We were told to buy our own drinking water. Overall the room has aged and there are lizards droppings. *There were daily power outage at around 2pm to 3pm for about 5 to 10mins. **In summary, please think twice before booking here. I do not recommend staying here at The Barat Resort.**

The room in the resort itself is good. Around the beach, there are other free facilities as well like table tennis, badminton, volleyball etc. The Dive Shop next to it is Awesome. HOWEVER, the service is extremely poor. When we check-in, the receptionist told us that they can do house keeping, but we need to inform them over the counter. The next day, they told me they couldn’t do house keeping AT ALL. If you can’t do it, please just manage the expectation well when we checked in. Also, the food at the restaurant takes forever to be ready. Averagely we waited one hour for almost every meal. One day, we have dive session to do at 7pm. So we planned to eat dinner earlier at 6pm, but they couldn’t do it and forced us to wait until 7pm because their rules for dinner starts from 7pm. In between, they also took wrong order, never repeat order or miss our order. Pre-order BBQ at 8pm , food only served at 8.45pm. Then what for we pre-book it ? Very very poor services. If you’re coming here for a chill holiday, please think twice. For diving, can consider because the dive shop is great ! Good services, great coach and friendly people from dive shop.

Room is great just a bit off maintain. Stay at villa which is the farest from beach. Suggest hotel to provide luggage service as its quite far. Load of activity at beach,just a big disappointment as the activity center close early at 6pm and no rental allowed after 5pm sharp. a really confusing operating hours as that is the most comfortable time to play at beach (no notice board / sign indicating operation hours) Foods was great with lot of variety and the service staff was so attentive, food serve extremely fast as well!

Food was okay but not great, could be better. Service was good as the staff were friendly and helpful. Beach was great...clean and loads of activities. Swimming pool was great and so was the spa massages. Electricity goes off intermittently. All rooms have Aircon and fans which is great. TVs in rooms can be removed. Overall, there is still room for minor improvements.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Barat! We went for diving, and had a wonderful time with the Barat Dive team. We were also pleasantly surprised with how lovely the Barat resort was. It's located just steps away from a wonderful beach with gorgeous sunrise views. We had relaxing evenings swimming in the sea and chilling on the comfy hammocks. The food was decent (with vegetarian options - though fewer vegan options). Rooms were basic and clean, shower pressure was good. One thing we really must commend is the attentiveness of the service staff, we felt really pampered there! Would recommend and we would revisit for sure.
