★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Hainanese chicken rice is a dish of poached chicken and seasoned rice, served with chilli sauce and usually with cucumber garnishes. It was created by immigrants from Hainan in southern China and adapted from the Hainanese dish Wenchang chicken.
The astounding serving of chicken whole leg on bed of sliced cucumbers with sprinkles of chopped spring onions and coriander. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the skin was lightly battered then fried till golden brown and extremely crispy. The flesh was moist, juicy and well-flavored too and the plus point was the fried chicken was not greasy at all, definitely one of the best.
The rice on the other hand was fluffed and not oil rice as per described in some of the blogs. The chili sauce was pretty good too, spicy with just enough vinegar for zing without being too acidic on taste bud.
Depending on your appetite, you can either opt for a whole chicken leg with rice or a piece of chicken with rice. Soup and any additional chilli sauce is self-service, and the cutlery is available from the tray placed on several tables. This stall packs up quite quickly during lunch on a weekday – mostly with people who are working nearby. It’s also quite reasonably priced, hence the crowd. During peak hours, expect to share a table with strangers.
