A fantastic and magnificent Lord Murugan (Sri Subramaniar) gold plated statue in the Batu Caves Temple compound. It's a main tourist attraction for people all over the world. Devotees also never forget to admire beauty and majestic look of the Almighty. Can be considered as the tallest Lord Murugan statue in the world.

Seen this many time on visits to Batu Caves and the last time I saw this was back in Feb before the shutdown happended. This statue is of Murugan, the son of Parvati and Shiva, the Hindu God of War and brother of Ganesha. For a god of war, the depiction of Murugan looks rather cheerful. You cannot miss this sculpture if visiting Batu caves as it’s right next to the entrance at the bottom of the stairs.

Visited to this important Hindu site. Some Malaysian ladies who introduced me to their business, took me here. It was a bit of a surprise for me to see a big Hindu statue in Malaysia. Looks like very popular as the place is full of people climbing the mountain to see everything close.

Great place and temple to visit from Kuala Lumpur. Train is available or taxi also can be taken. Early morning preferred to avoid crowds and to get the best photographs if you are interested in it. A climb up a couple of hundred steps. Be aware of monkeys though generally it was safe. View of Kuala Lumpur city from the top is beautiful too. A must visit if you are travelling to Kuala Lumpur.

Located at theΒ foot of Batu caves in Gombak - Selango (about 12 kilometres to the north of Kuala Lumpur), Lord Murugan Statue is the tallest statue in Malaysia at 42.7 metres in height. It is also the third tallest statue of a Hindu deity in the world, after Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue in Indonesia (122 metres in height, including the 46-meter base pedestal) and Kailashnath Mahadev Statue in Nepal (45.5 metres in height). Lord Murugan Statue was built by Tamil Malaysians with the help of 15 sculptors from India. It costed 2.5 million Ringgit Malaysia (about 600,000 US dollars) and took 3 years of construction, with 350 tons of steel bars, 1,550 cubic metres of concrete and 300 litres of gold paint used. It was unveiled in January 19th, 2006 during Thaipusam festival. Lord Murugan, in Hinduism, was a son of Parvati and Lord Shiva (the God of Creation and Destruction), as well as brother of Lord Ganesha. The construction of the Lord Murugan Statue right in front of the Batu caves entrance is said to be related to a story. One day, Lord Shiva wanted to pass the throne to one of his two sons, he devised a challenge by throwing a stone far away, if anyone found it, he would inherit the throne. The clever and crafty Murugan devised a plan to offer Lord Shiva a fake stone. However, that incident did not go unnoticed by Lord Shiva and he punished Murugan by keeping it at the foot of the mountain. At the same time, the 272 steps leading to Batu caves also correspond to the 272 days when his brother Ganesha found the stone and ascended the throne. So, Lord Murugan redeemed himself by helping the people...

About ten years ago I went there. Around Kuala Lumpur. A complex of huge and impressive temple and caves. These photos belong to that time.

magnificent statue and the temple inside batu caves is so peaceful.... there is a restriction for dress to enter into the temple... people are carrying sand voluntarily for inside works of temple.... because of rock structure inside caves temperature is cool... number of steps one have to climb to reach the temple...
