The once hidden orchard hill started to draw public attention after the arrival of Thai monks 10+ years ago. There are Buddhist temples, pagoda and statues up there surrounded by rich flora and fauna - durian, nutmeg, giant millipede, songbird, near-threatened dusky leaf monkey and so on. The cement-paved trail is friendly for family weekend outing. You have to decide at midway junction - left temple (20 - 40 mins) or right temple (40 - 60 mins). Further up of the left temple has a jungle trail that leads to Tokun hilltop (make sure you have map/compass or proper tracking device). All in all, Berapit Hill is an accessible (few minutes from town) spot for nature lovers, hikers and mountain bikers.

A 30 min hike up to the temple. Burned about 200kCal up an down. A good concrete path to walk up. Although some areas are steep, but they are manageable by a 4yr old. Lots of shade from the sun. Pleasant hike.

A good place for morning hike. Decent distance (approximately 2km to the temple), trail with some steepness but with good recovery.

Actually, this route to Bukit Tokun is quite nice. Less 'maintained' and no overkill decorations. Most people will only hike to the Thai Temple. You can go straight further up all the way into Hutan Simpan Bukit Mertajam. This path is not shown on Google Map,don't worry, just follow the narrow muddy trail. Along the way, you can stop at the Viewing Platform Deck (Bukit Tokun View Platform), overlooking Menkuang Dam. From here, continue to hike up all the way to the Telekom Tower (506m). Or you can connect to the Bukit Tokun Station 2 (the other side). Difficulty: 2.5 (can be muddy) View: 4/5 (can see Penang Island) Parking space is limited? Come early.

Moderate hike, perfect for families, friends and mountain bikers! Took me about 40 minutes to reach the top. Love the panoramic view of Penang island at the top. The trail isn't very hot, thanks to the trees for providing shades. Parking is free, so park at your own risk!

It's another side of Tokun. If you hike further up from the temple, you can reach Tokun peak too. For a weekend slight exercise, the elevation and distance to the temple is moderately good for most people.

First hike on D2 morning CNY. Super tough and rough hike, following the path in All Trail up. Almost like a rock climbing with no one along the uphill route. Finally realized a hiking pathway which directed us to the temple. Nice view as usual.
