β β β β β We went for batik drawing without appointment. The boss wasn't so friendly, seemed more "business as usual" attitude. Can't really blame him seeing I was the only person signing up. But the lady who coached me was great.

β β β β β You can paint your own batik, which is very fun and therapeutic. You have to arrange in advance, and they can be hard to get ahold of by phone, but it's worth it! We made napkins, and I'm super excited about them
The storefront is on the more expensive side.

β β β β β Overpriced stuff. Rm 35 for a batik handkerchief that you paint yourself, rm 80 for t-shirt. I don't think its worth it considering you are doing it yourself. Boss not friendly, and feel too business like/money minded. Not recommended for locals. Good side, there's a large batik shop, but also expensive.

β β β β β A great way to see various styles of batik being made, and the different techniques involved - the artists are very talented. The factory tour only takes about 5-10 minutes, and then you can browse the shop, which has hundreds of batik items from clothing to tablecloths. A good place to see it all, but be prepared to spend lots of money.

β β β β β Iβm extremely disappointed with this place. I have been there before and knew the items were overpriced. Went again and was brought to the back by a dark-skinned woman in a hijab whose face was very sour. She reluctantly showed us the factory portion, barely giving us any details about the creation process. She didnβt want to show us the stamping area or the dye area, and when I asked if we could take pictures, she looked upset and said βfive minutesβ, and left us for the sanctuary of the air-conditioned shop. We had barely taken any pictures when she came back and demanded we leave. I asked if we could take a picture of the dyes, and she said βno,β with a stony face. After that, I felt so upset I did not want to look around the shop or buy anything. I had half a mind to tell the manager about her employeeβs attitude, which totally killed mine. The place isnβt worth going to for the way they treat customers, and their overpriced items. They donβt even have traditional patterns for their batik items. Iβm very disappointed and upset at being treated like that after driving an hour into Batu Ferringhi just to see the place.

β β β β β The 101 bus stops in front of the shop. Basically, it's a store front with a production facility in the back. There's a tour but it is terrible. Our guide walks through production area but doesn't explain the steps so there's a bit of guessing that goes on to create these beautiful products. I think we spent less than 5 min on the tour since the guide wanted to move us long to the retail side. Once in the retail area, the guide basically stays within 5 meters of our group through out store as we look around. Really annoying. The prices are extremely high too. Not all the items come from the production area. You have ask if it was made in the back.

β β β β β We really enjoyed our visit to Craft Batik. A guide took us into the manufacturing area and carefully explained the different methods they were using. This included drawn vs stamped and mottled vs block. Very cool. We spoke to some of the craftspeople and then went to the shop. Inside they shop a cheerful assistant helped us find the kinds of things we wanted and then folded and packaged them for us. Possibly the goods might have been cheaper elsewhere, but at least here we were certain that they were genuinely local and not just Chinese copies.
A really good visit and very interesting.
