★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our HOP Georgetown/Penang tour was awesome, Danny our guide was so knowledgeable not just about the food (which was amazing), but about the local area and the history that makes Georgetown what it is today. We’ve been travelling for about 10 months and this rates up there as one of our favourite local experiences!! Thanks again Danny, you the man?? Definitely recommend!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Have you ever been curious about what the locals are eating but was afraid of what the establishments looked like - "too local or looked unclean", unfamiliarity with the language, what to order, how to read the menu or simply didn't know where to go? If so, this is the tour for you. This isn't your typical sight seeing tour. Danny runs this outfit with a partner of his takes care in the first 5-10 mins of the tour to understand your likes, dislikes, allergies and then proceeded to take us on a culinary journey. Who makes the best char kuay teow, what's the difference between a charcoal one and the ones cooked on a gas stove. What's in a laksa and how is it different from the curry mee of Penang? What goes into nyonya cooking? Danny managed to explain everything in glorious detail, the history behind the dishes and how it's prepared and eaten (yes, there is a way to eat Penang laksa). Apart from food, Danny will take you through the streets of Penang and give you the stories not told on the internet behind the history and buildings as well as the neighbourhood. What's more, Danny answered questions we had over email long after our tour to provide recommendations on where to eat different types of local food and the best stalls (obviously, these are subjective as with all forms of cuisine). If you like to stick with burgers and pasta when you travel, then this isn't the tour for you. However, Danny gave us a lasting impression of street food in Penang. Well worth the time and money.

I’m so glad I had a chance to learn more about the complex, layered history of Penang over some truly exceptional food and drinks. The tour is also very intimate and personal. A perfect beginning to any stay in Penang!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Heritage on a Plate Food Tour was a phenomenal experience! We took the 3 hour lunch time tour with a group of 7 people and the host Danny was very knowledgeable and accommodating. His passion for the food and the city was contagious and we enjoyed learning about the history of the city and tasting some dishes that are unique to Penang.

His storytelling, sense of humour and ability to link each stop to a piece in history, opened our eyes to a Penang that not a lot of people know about. We were pleasantly surprised by the authenticity, simplicity and absolute deliciousness of the various dishes chosen by Danny (not an easy feat when a lot of different options are out there!). We will definitely be back!

Danny is an excellent guide and just an overall cool guy to spend some time with. Would definitely recommend this tour! Worth the money!

We love getting to know cities that we travel to through their food, and this tour definitely did that for us. We visiting quite a few places that we would’ve never found on our own or known what to order. We would highly recommend doing this tour when visiting Penang!
