The term PERHILITAN is the abbreviation for ‘Perlindungan Hidupan Liar dan Taman Negara’ or Wildlife and National Park Conservation is a governmental organisation that is responsible for the protection, management and preservation of wildlife and national parks in Peninsular Malaysia, established under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, which consolidated all the West Malaysian states' game departments and subsequently placed under the purview of Malaysian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in 2006, with a Director taking charge of the overall monitoring and conservation activities.
As for East Malaysia, the same tasks in Sabah are placed under the responsibility of the Sabah Wildlife Department and Sabah Parks, while for Sarawak, it is placed under the responsibility of Sarawak Forest Corporation.
