Passed by and not much to do here. Wish they have some activities along the river which would be so nice.

DATING back 250 years, Jetty Pekan Cina is yet another historical landmark that must be protected and preserved for posterity. Spanning across Anak Bukit River, the jetty was constructed by the local community in 1940 for residents to commute between Kampung Seberang Nyonya and the city center. The jetty had undergone a major repair in 1970 and had remained pretty much the same since then until it was revitalized under Encomasโ€™s Project CSR in 2020. With the help of the local community, pro bono works and sponsorships, Jetty Pekan Cina and its resounding areas were transformed into the heritage gem it is today. Endorsed by the state government under the Alor Setar Heritage Trail Programme, the heritage enclave holds a significant place in the history of Alor Setar city. This part of Pekan Cina used to be an important and busy trading port with traders from China, Arab, Thailand, India and many other countries plying their trade and settling down here. Before the construction of the Ampang Jajar Barrage in 1971, smaller fisherman and charcoal boats would berthed at the jetty while bigger ships dealing in the import and export of rice and spices would docked at Tanjung Charlie and Limbong Kapal, close to the Custom House. Heartfelt thanks to MCI Paint which sponsored all the paints for the revitalization project; Perunding Kabatas and Architect Azimin who helped designing the retaining wall and space making; and Diem Bakery staff for maintaining the space and organizing various social events. In short, a big shouts out to everyone that was involved in this meaningful place making project. Today, Jetty Pekan Cina is a clean and safe community space that welcomes everyone into its warm embrace. It has always been our intention to promote local art and culture, but most importantly, a harmonious community where local tourism, businesses and our heritage can thrive.
