This cafeteria building is contracted to a different company every two-or-so years. So please keep in mind that this review is based on the cafeteria company contracted for the academic year starting in September 2019. Overall, they have done a fantastic job, particularly when compared with the previous services in 2017 and 2018. They have added a very nice outdoor seating area that allows students to eat out when the weather is nice (and if often is). It is such a nice change and actually makes you want to go there just to sit at the cafe-style tables. There are also A LOT of new food and drink options, more than I’ve ever seen at this Mahallah before. However, the majority of the food is Malay. Shawarma, wraps, Korean chicken, burgers, fries, and other western options are available- but they’re all done “Malay style” as is common in nearly every mahallah on campus (except for Mahallah Ruqayyah, they have authentic five-star shawarma over there). The buffet food is available from opening times until 17:00 or a little before that. After 17:00, you can order off the menu. This is how every mahallah cafeteria operates on this campus. So after 17:00, the ordering food is a very organized process. You write your name and order on a slip of paper. The cash register attendant will write down the cost and stamp your slip after that. And your name will be called when your food is ready. If your order is from one of the extra food corners, you should take the slip of paper from them. The extra food and drink corners have their own hours. Some are available from 13:00 onwards, others might be available only after Asr (16:00 or 17:00 onwards). There is only one cash register, and you go when the place is crowded you might have to wait a long time. The cafeteria also sells freshly cut fruits and has a cakes and desserts, in addition to other snacks. The place is very clean, and many of the previously broken sinks were fixed. The staff is so friendly, polite and respectful. They only speak Malay or Indonesian. This provides a good opportunity for international students to practice the local language, but can sometimes be a barrier, too. I get around campus a lot and compared to other mahallah cafeterias, I must say: this one has finally caught up to the rest. Nice decor, plenty of variety in the offered food and drinks, comfortable and plentiful seating, and super friendly staff, too! If I could change anything it would be: 1- Add covers to buffet food trays to protect the food from insects that could fly or crawl in. I don’t know why they’re not covered already. 2- Offer fresh juice. Nearly every other Mahallah cafeteria on campus offers fresh juices, except this one. 3- Offer fresh coffee made with actual coffee beans instead of premixed powders. 3- Offer salads or a salad bar. 4- Add a menu with photos of the food options and a list of their ingredients so students (especially international ones) know what to expect and can avoid unwanted allergic reactions to certain ingredients. I’ve noticed none of cafeterias or food services on campus mention any allergy information. This has led to several problems. 5- Add a second register to reduce waiting time. Regarding wheelchair accessibility: If I’m not mistaken, the cafeteria is wheelchair accessible (I’ve seen someone with a wheelchair there) but I don’t think the bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. Regarding operating hours: This place is open from 08:00 to 10:00 daily, but the cafeterias on this campus usually have special hours during Ramadan, public holidays and semester breaks. These are announced usually on a paper stuck to the cafeteria door. If this cafeteria is closed during a public holiday or semester break, then the next door cafeteria in Mahallah Asiah is most likely open. The opposite is also true. I gave this place 4 stars because it is superb overall, but could use some improvements such as those mentioned in the above recommendations.

Food is good and price is reasonable. The payment system is a bit inefficient, causing long queues. Other than that, all good ??
