An old but beautiful mosque situated in the centre of artistic street of Penang. Came across the mosque while we were venturing around the art streets admiring the murals. The weather was scorching hot but we enjoyed the afternoon very much.

Founded in 1808 and is the oldest mosque on the island. Its octagonal minerat is reminiscent of those found in Malaka and rarely anywhere else in Malaysia. Within its grounds is the grave of Tengku Syed Husein, founder of the mosque.

The Acheen Street Mosque is located at the intersection of Lebuh Cannon and Lebuh Acheh in the historic district of George Town. It is situated just a few minutes walk from the larger and more famous Kapitan Keling Mosque and can be conveniently seen if you plan to visit this area of the Penang. This mosque was built in 1808 and was a centre of of Muslim settlement and Islamic Studies on Penang Island for many decades. It was also an important place of worship for traveling Muslims, who frequented Penang from distant lands as well as a gathering point for traveling Muslims preparing for a long journey by sea to Mecca. You can visit and walk around the mosque grounds. It is surrounded by houses, which have long formed part of the settlement here. For use the most interesting feature of Acheen Street Mosque is the attractive minaret, which lines Lebuh Acheen. This is an attractive structure to see at the end of Lebuh Cannon.

The mosque was built in 1808 and it's still well-maintained. Kudos to its management team and commitee members.
