β β β β β Actually it's a good museum to visit if your interested to know about Malaysia. It has a whole lot of exhibits and artifacts that speaks in volumes about the country. But, I felt it really boring. So don't judge and see for yourself.

β β β β β ? Public Transport : Extremely close to Muzium Negara MRT station, literally in front of the museum. The station also connecting with KL Sentral (LRT, KTM, Monorail, KLIA Transit, KLIA Express).
?οΈ Ticket & Misc : RM 2 for adults, RM 1 for oldies and OKU, free for kids. Open at 9am and closed for new visitors at 4pm.
Muzium Negara was once the site for the ancient Selangor Museum. But the old museum's east wing got destroyed during WW2 Japanese attack, which then getting demolished and rebuild to be the Muzium Negara as we know and love today.
The museum is undoubtedly timeless in design, aging gracefully with its classy traditional Malay house architecture. The museum also graced with dazzling pair of murals, both on each right and left wing lf facade. The murals showcases the Malaysian history in a nutshell, from early colonial era all the way to the national independence as well the highlight of some significant local cultures in the vibrant multiracial Malaysia society.
Inside, the museum has 4 halls separated between 2 wings. Each hall showcasing different historical topics.
Hall 1 : The general human evolution history that's happening in Malay Peninsula.
Hall 2 : The history of ancient Malay society like the past economy practices, Malay Sultan institution, the Buddha influence and the spread of Islam religion.
Hall 3 : The colonial era from the Portuguese, the Dutch, the British to the torturous communist Japanese occupation. The colonization history is nicely presented in chronological order with few big highlight moments splashed in-between.
Hall 4 : Merdeka. Showcasing the hard journey to the amazing independence, the iconic figures that helps bring nation united as well the terrorizing moments of the rebellion.
This has been unexpectedly emotional visit for me personally. The Hall 3 and Hall 4 exhibitions leave the most lasting impression to me. The museum taught me a lot and made me realize how grateful I am as a Malaysian. The multiple colonial occupations were already stressful enough and the road to our independence was no easy feat but we made it. It's a flawed but beautiful journey. Definitely an amazing blast from the past.

β β β β β Having lived in Malaysia for 35 years since the day I was born, this is actually my first time visiting the National Museum of Malaysia ???. I have passed by it numerous times over the years but I never had the urge to go in and see what it has to offer. I've always visited museum when I go for holidays overseas, so why not give our nation Museum a shot?
It was a Saturday late morning when I arrived, no queue at the ticket booth and the ticket is only RM2 for Malaysian adult and RM5 for foreigners. I thought I would spend maybe 1 hour here before taking the MRT to some shopping malls but I ended spends more than 3 hours here!
They have 4 main exhibition halls - one each for pre-historic, the Malay kingdom, colonialists era and post Independence.
Overall it was an interesting visit, with only 2 aspects that maybe need to be improved:
1) Expand more on the Japanese colonialist time - it was all too brief compared to maybe Fort Siloso in Singapore. I think we won't have any less stories to tell compared to Singapore.
2) Fixed the AC on the upper floor - it was hot and humid! And make sure those video shows and screens are working. Come on Malaysia! Show the world that we can do better!
Will gladly come back in the future or sir the future generations ???.

β β β β β Why would anyone go to a museum? Because it's awesome that's why :) And I'm embarrassed to say that after living more than two years in Malaysia, I've only visited it now. It's good to know a little something about Malaysian history, which is super complex you need to be Stephen Hawking to figure out who's who.
But I think the museum is a good reflection of Malaysian history (depending on how you interpret history) and a collection of cool artefacts. I especially love the weapons collection. It is a comfortable place to be, and very well structured into separate chambers which represent different parts of Malaysian history.
The entrance fee is also cheap compared to other attractions around town, setting me back RM5 as a foreigner and RM2 if you're local.

β β β β β The museum is better maintained than what I expected. Worth a trip to refresh our history of Malaysia, particularly if you have little kids to educate. Ticket price is negligible at only RM2 for adult and free for children below 12 years old. Remember to talk a walk outside the museum and visit other exhibition halls. The taxidermy exhibition is interesting (only until mid March this year).
