If you are not from Penang and didn't know about this. Don't make the same mistake I did, we planned to dine in but we forgot that they will be closing for Friday prayers, so only take away is allowed until 1PM. You can only dine in after 2PM on Fridays. As the pictures shows, I like to have my Nasi Kandar Banjir with their fried chicken and I added some Telur Sotong. The taste was quite similar to any Nasi Kandar and the taste is not too 'berempah'. Other things that I would like to highlight is that their staff services and very professional, fast, alert and easy to order with. Compared to my previous experience on other Nasi Kandar places. Worth it to grab a meal of Nasi Kandar whenever you visited here. Oh and might I remind you, this placed is packed with people.

Nasi Kandar, ubiquitous with Penang, can be found on almost any street in Penang. Most of them are pretty good, as there seems to some kind of "generic" taste to the curries served. So why are some more popular than others? Mohamed Raffee, or locally known as Raffee, has been in the same spot for about two decades now. During its early days, it was simply a mamak restaurant, selling the usual fare found in most mamak shops. However, since the addition of Nasi Kandar about 10+ years ago, lines began to form outside the restaurant for the food. With social media exposing it even further, the restaurant now boasts of queues that can see almost 20 to 30 persons in line waiting to order their meal. Parking is difficult during mornings and afternoons as the vicinity has other coffee shops and some even park here to walk to Pulau Tikus Market. But, don't give up, as there's normally quite a quick turnaround of cars. The food is really tasty, intense curries flavour a bed of rice, and the meats are cooked perfectly. The fried chicken is also very good (best to come around 11am as the first few batches of fried chicken comes out and is often replenished with fresh batches). The beef is not too tough, and the lamb is tender and juicy. Prices are very reasonable, and a hearty meal with meat, vegetables and some egg can be had for under RM10. All you need is to pair your meal with a great teh tarik, and you're all set.

Raffee Nasi Kandar serves their Nasi Kandar from 7am, but only allow dine in from 12pm. So if you come earlier, you can only do takeaway. Their nasi kandar gravy is quite flavourful and their fried chicken is quite good. Nasi kandar as a breakfast item is quite filling, but you should come around 8am for more options to be available as some items may not be ready by 7am. They also serve other options such as roti canai/paratha.

In 1959, Mohd Raffe Restaurant opened its first location in Batu Gantong, Penang's racetrack, before relocating to Pulau Tikus in 1998. Despite its small size, this 24-hour shop lot outlet relies solely on fans for ventilation. Typical of a Mamak shop, the atmosphere is relaxed and lively, filled with customers and employees conversing incessantly. At night, tables are placed on the shop lot walkway and the street just in front of it to accommodate more customers and create an open-air dining atmosphere. According to a local, this is the nasi kandar outlet he has been a customer of since he was a child. If you are not from Penang, always take the advice of a Penangite when it comes to local cuisine. I have had nasi kandar at many places, but Raffe is my favorite. Raffe's curries and fried chicken are two of Penang's most popular dishes; whether you are a Penangite or a first-time visitor, you will enjoy the food at Raffee, and do not forget to practice physical distancing during the Covid-19 while visiting the famous Nasi Kandar Raffee 295-A Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus 10350 George Town, Penang.

My first experience dining in the restaurant, please take note you can only dine in from 12pm onwards. I sample their chicken curry and squid eggs, served with fluffy hot bed of rice, heavenly. Seating are limited so please avoid lunch hours. Recommended for hard core nasi kandar lovers.

I wanted to try Nasi Kandar, but I didnโ€™t want to go to an overly popular place that tasted average. So I asked some locals and they recommend Raffee! I truly enjoyed the Nasi Kandar. The gravy worked well together and the add on chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. This is definitely a place to check out if you want to try good Nasi Kandar.

Im loving it, my wife loves it, my kids digs it.. what more can i say? The queue was long, but very worth it. Fish curry and squid egg is the best dish you can have here. Fried chicken is awesome. Expect very long queue and limited dining place. Will come again later for sure.
