Menara pertama kali dibangun di Basra pada tahun 665 sewaktu pemerintahan khalifah Bani Umayyah, Muawiyah I. Muawiyah mendukung pembangunan menara masjid untuk menyaingi menara-menara loceng di gereja. Menara bertujuan sebagai tempat muazin mengumandangkan azan.

Even Though the patrons are not as much as other masjid but still you are welcome to pray here or just come to enjoy the view.
Interior is large, very clean and well taken care of. Toilet and shower room are clean too. Serene place to unwind and i'tikaf.
