β β β β β Great ambience. It is a beautiful place surrounded by nature but falls short of a five star expectation. The staff are very courteous and friendly. Pool and spa are good although we noticed there was no lifeguard around. Had an interesting morning walk with the naturalist, Angel, albeit a short one. We highly recommend taking that walk with her. You will be wonderfully surprised by what you find. Too bad we missed the evening bicycling with her to the caves as it rained in the evenings.
We were looking forward to enjoying the light snacks and outdoor movie viewing on the pool terrace as advertised in the resort website, but that section was closed. As a result, the choice of food was only limited to one restaurant at night on weekdays. The beach restaurant which has a "bar", closes at 7.30 pm. A la carte food quality was terrible. Everyone who served at the table was a "Chef" but everything we ordered tasted bland, watered-down. The complimentary keropok ikan was cold and soft by the time they served us. We hope the resort will seriously look into this as the food price is over-priced. Breakfast buffet was okay and lacks variety.
Our hearts go out to the resident male peacock. Beautiful creature which catches the attention of the guests with his magnificent plume and boisterous calls. He lost his female companion some years ago according to staff chatter. His calls could be an impassioned plea for company. Hope the management looks into this.

β β β β β We had some insects issue with our room but it was handled swiftly by the room service. However I did not expect such issue to happen in a small luxury hotel like Tanjong Jara. The hotel did addressed it when we brought it up upon departure by waiving off some food and activities charges but they should be more proactive in handling such incidents in the future. The service overall was pleasant especially from the moment we arrived we were greeted by a enthusiastic bell boy but the front desk ladies should share about the facilities and activities that the hotel offered. The staff named MK at Nelayan was very helpful when we enquired about the activities such as the Jara hill walk and batik painting although it's not his job since he's with the restaurant. I understand that the pandemic has been hard but it's important to still maintain the same level of service to attract the guests to return again to a beautiful resort like Tanjong Jara.

β β β β β I think probably 4 stars for the quality of the resort itself and the 5th for the staff who were always friendly, tried their hardest and helpful. It's important to judge it by where it is. If you're expecting it to be at the same level as an equivalent place in the Caribbean or probably even Thailand etc you'll be a bit disappointed I think but I think most people who come here aren't expecting that level so it's fine.
Think the pluses are the staff, the beach which is beautiful and very quiet, the setting and architecture of the main buildings especially and the dinner. The food is expensive generally as you might expect by Malaysian standards though portions are big if you qualify the residents package is worth it. Rooms are also large and I think all of them are convenient for the sea though some will be some distance from the at least one of the meals but it's a pleasant stroll around anyway imo.
It's obviously a bit older now and though the rooms themselves are clean and well maintained there's only so much you can do so in places it does show. Gym area is very small and could probably do with being updated, there are 2 pools but only 1 is currently open which when it's busy is a bit annoying especially considering COVID so hopefully soon the other one will open - it surprises me this wasn't done for CNY holiday considering there was a lot of people staying. The one pool that is open is lovely and well kept though it must be said.
Breakfast is a buffet which I was glad to see as some hotels still don't do it again because COVID. Food here was good but not amazing and very much the same every day - though I appreciate given the location there's always going to be limitations variety wise. Lunch has a lovely setting by the beach the food I had was was again good but not great. All days for lunch food arrived luke warm I think there's a slight lack of efficiency between the kitchen and the wait staff. Dinner was the high point some of the more local cuisine we had there was excellent and the portions too big If anything. Could do with more desert options though there not such a big thing here and I couldn't really eat anything after my main anyway so no biggy for us.
Overall it's a really enjoyable place to spend perhaps 3 nights or so after that I think because there's not much to do it might get a little boring though of course that does depend on what you're after. I think the relative age and certain other things are tbf reflected in it's cost so though it's obviously expensive by Malaysian standards I think it's fairly priced for what you get. We have a young kid as well and all the staff were very kind and helpful as regards that too.

β β β β β A very beautiful resort facing the prideful South China Sea. It is a well maintained hotel, very clean with a peaceful surroundings.
Pros:
1. This resort has an army of very friendly and helpful staff, right from the reception, itβs restaurants, room service and housekeeping. Special thanks to Amira and her gang at the front desk who were very jovial and made us to be very comfortable right from our arrival till our departure.
2. My overall dining experience was good although I wish the price could have been more reasonable. Limited Breakfast options. One should not miss the Fish Head Curry. This item was recommended to us by Chef Ann, a very experienced, humble and cute Chef of the Tanjong Jara Resort. She even recommended us to have the fish head replaced with the fish body as we do not know how to enjoy fish head. The curry was superb and we repeated the order. To be honest, I am still craving for it!
3. The Resort is very well maintained. The beach is super clean.
4. The cocktails were good. It is worth to have drinks during the happy hours between 5pm to 7pm. Itβs buy one free one.
5. The bed was comfortable. The room was big and clean. They also had a special bed, single size for reading purpose. I liked the concept of it.

β β β β β This resort brings the nature to you. Scroll along the clean private beach or dip in the infinity pool while staring into the sea.
Room is 5 star and definitely helps us to kick back and relax.
Too bad Teratai Pool was closed.
Definitely will come back again with such good hospitality and privacy.

β β β β β My wife and I had an amazing time at Tanjong Jara, and a large part of that comes from the wonderful hospitality from your team - special shout out to Chef Ann, the Reception team and the service staff at the restaurants!
The food quality and selection for lunch and dinner was great, however it would have been good to have more variation in the breakfast assortment across different days.
The beach was nice and clean on the resort side of things, but horribly dirty and strewn with rubbish as we walk towards the public beach - would be great if the resort can work with the local council to address this.
Room condition and cleanliness was good as well, and housekeeping staff was polite and respectful of our privacy.
Highly recommended!
