Had the standard lunch course with the wagyu add on. It was really good, not to mention the kakiage is to die for. Slightly pricey comparing the dishes offered, but it's a good experience

its really hard to find a tempura restaurant outside Japan. the dishes are all coming up with quality and ideas. personally love the urchin best, just can't figure out what kind of "leaves" they are using for the dish. anyway, the dining is a charming experience and it definitely worth a try.

A journey to a small Japanese restaurant serving tempura kaiseki. A great experience trying some imported yet fresh ingredients. The menu comes in multiple courses of tempura with the possibility to add a beef course. The shiso with uni is absolutely to die for combining the crispy texture of the tempura leaf with the buttery uni. We are blessed to have found last minute availability in this restaurant that seats no more than 14 pax in 2 shifts.

Taste very normal and yet cost us about RM500++ per person. I was expecting each dishes to be impressive and filled with surprises for the cost but, only the uni tempura with shiso leaf did that. The shrimp tempura is also nothing special.

Let me start by saying that Tenmasa has indeed done right by tempura. They understand that when you use fresh ingredients and taken enough care in the food, you simply cannot go wrong. Everything was cooked to perfection with each item lightly battered, served individually in true Omakase fashion. However, at the end of the day, it is afterall JUST tempura. The kaiseki set we took sets you on a course of several seafood and vegetable items as it should and they taste really good only because of the fresh ingredients they used, and that's it. Nothing out of the ordinary in terms of prep and execution. The only thing that blew us away was just how fresh each ingredient is, not how well conceptualised each dish is. I would recommend you give it a go if you LOVE FRESH tempura but its not going to be mind-blowingly different from any good Japanese restaurant.

A rather big budget experiment on how some of the typical traditional Japanese foods taste when fried. Some parts of it were fun, but there were some confusion throughout the meal due to the lack of explanation from both the staff and the seemly young head chef. Although such interactions may not be necessary, understanding what you’re eating and knowing what’s the best way to consume each dish would definitely enhance the overall experience. Towards the end you can’t help feeling the oil swimming in your stomach because at the end of the day, no matter how fresh (or exquisite) the ingredients were served, it is a tempura course meal. With that all being said, this is currently the only authentic tempura store in Malaysia so this would still be the place if you’re interested to experience it the traditional way without stepping out of the country.

One of a kind restaurant in KL offering a Tempura kaiseki. Sometimes, I think of Tempura as a form of art, and only the most skilled in this art of frying can produce pieces that simply multiplies the taste of the original ingredient. While the price is steep, it's worth it to savour the kaiseki offered...

Not worth your money. That's how I'd sum up this review. Yes, imported Japanese vegetables are expensive. Yes, they taste amazing. Yes, so are prawns. But do the portions have to be that small? Does it have to cost upwards of 500 ringgit per person to eat fresh high quality tempura?? I'm not sure but personally, I don't think so. Having said that, the people who work here are lovely. Service is really great.
