★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cheah Kongsi is a Chinese style temple situated on Lebuh Armenian and Lebuh Pantai. It was originally established in 1810 by the Hokkien clan who mainly immigrated from the Fujian Province in China.
We passed by a couple times during our recent visit and found the temple door closed on Lebuh Armenian. The much larger entrance on Lebuh Pantai was open but it appears that restoration works were taking place. The good news is that you can have a good look at the exterior of Cheah Kongsi, which is decorative and nice to have a quick look at if you enjoy seeing temples.
One of the neat things you can see at Cheah Kongsi is the art mural called 'Cats & Humans Happily Living Together' You can find this large and interesting mural by entering the temple grounds from Lebuh Pantai, if the gate is open. Just look to your right and you'll see the mural on the wall. The image is a procession of Taoist deities, making their way through the streets of Penang.

The lawn in front of the clan house is beautiful. The wood carvings and tablet hall inside are not as elaborate as the more famous LST Khoo Kongsi.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Cheah Clan Ancestral House is one of the nicest clan house in Georgetown and restored very beautifully. It is also the oldest of the five major Hokkien clan house in Penang.
It cost RM10 to enter this beautiful mansion and I would say is very much worth it.
The best view of the mansion is of course from Beach Street entrance with its nicely manicured lawn.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ There are a handful of beautifully preserved period mansions in Penang and this is an exception example. The rooms have been restored to how they would have been back in the day. Stunning mahjong playing room, incredible floors and the most ornate and beautiful roofs.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The temple was closed when I visited the island (not surprising, during these times) so I could only take pictures from the grounds. It was very well kept and clean. The exterior looked amazing and I can imagine the interior would be the same as well. Will definitely come back here when I can - if only just to visit and snap a few pictures inside the temple.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Worth having a look at if you've done everything else you want. Lots of info on signs explaining history of the temple and penang. I wanted to visit khoo kongsi but was always closed when I walked past. Only 10 ringgit, spent about 45 mins looking around.
