My family loves Korean food since the airing of Jewel in the Palace. Our favorite Korean restaurants are in other parts of Penang. Today, decided to try CDJ in Queensbay Mall. Reading the menu and finding out that this restaurant chain originated from S. Korea, my wife and I had high hopes on the food to come. Sadly our expectations were not met. Let me describe why. The side dishes served were not tasting very authentic. The celery and spinach dishes tasted distinctly Chinese. The bean sprout dish also lacks the usual sesame oil aroma typical of a Korean bean sprout side dish. Only authentic side dish - kimchi. Mind you - my reference is on Korean meals I had in S. Korea during my travels. Main dishes - doenjang jjigae was served in a very small bowl and very salty; but the BBQ samgyeopsal came out perfect. The housekeeping was also poor despite the place not being busy when we went in ~3pm Labor Day long weekend. If the proprietor knows Korean food business, then I attribute what I described above to leaving the place to be handled entirely by foreign workers.

THE STAFF IS SO RUDE! WHEN I WALK IN NEVER SAY THAT KIMCHI IS OUT OF STOCK! AFTER I ORDER MY FOOD, THE SIDE DISHES CAME. BUT THEN WHEN I ASKED FOR A REFILL FOR THE SIDE DISHES IT TOOK 10 MINUTES AND NEVER CAME. UNTIL I ASK AGAIN, THE STAFF ONLY SAY KIMCHI OUT OF STOCK. WHEN I WALK IN WHY DO NOT WANT TO SAY? WHEN I PLACE MY FOOD ORDER WHY DIDN'T INFORM? WHAT TYPE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THIS? IF THE KITCHEN IS CLOSE THEN JUST TELL ME! IS IT SO DIFFICULT?

Unsatisfying dining experience as the food is bland and not worth the value spent. Ordered the sundubu jiggae (seafood stew) and it comes with 3 clams, a few thin slices of squid tentacles, 1 prawn and heaps of tofu.

Pretty authentic Korean food taste but price slightly on the high side, worth trying if u like Korean food. The kimchi jinge and fried rice are my favourite here. Atmosphere : 4/5 Food   : 4/5 Drinks : 4/5 Price.  : 3/5 Service : 3/5

Fried spicy pork is nice only others just below average. one thing highlight is the vegetables can't refill, won't go for next time.

It charges RM5 for a bowl of rice ? that does not come with the stew or any dish. Went here with friends back in October 2021. Kimchi chiggae costs RM22. Barely any pork, couple pieces of tofu. Would go elsewhere for korean food next time.

Have always loved dining here. Staffs are always friendly. Food is really yummy too. We always order the pork and squid stir fry with cheese set and their sundubu jiggae is an absolute must try! Entire pot is filled with ingredients, and the soup is thick and not watery. Tried the japchae and mandu, and are satisfied with the taste of the dishes served here. Ban chan just so so, and it changes daily so can't really rate it. Kimchi is really flavourful and crunchy. Price is on the expensive side but it's worth the price for the portion you get.
