β β β β β Finally, a small personalised western food restaurant that serves tasty and affordable Western cuisine.
Many have yet to get to know this small restaurant along the popular promenade, Gurney Drive. Do not let the facade deceive you, which looks small but on entering the building, it is quite spacious with even a private room to accommodate you, to be separated from the other customers.
At present, it is having a Set Lunch promotion, offering a large portion of Chicken Milanese, Grilled Fish or Sphagetti at Rm14.90 nett. A starter drink of Lime Juice, Tomato Soup and Dessert are all thrown in.
I also ordered Subi Squids, which was very crunchy Fried Squid Tentacles with a great taste, especially dipped in slightly salted Mayonnaise.
All in all, it was a most satisfying meal for me and my wife, all thanks to the excellent service of Mr Daniel, the Manager. Bob Appetit

β β β β β Decided to try out this place after seeing the 3-course lunch offer @ RM14.90/set banner outside. Service staff made us feel extremely uncomfortable - waitress stood by our table and stared us down while we (awkwardly) looked through the menu to decide what we wanted to order. Starter (mushroom soup) and mains were average at best, dessert (a slice of marble cake) was dry and cold. Worst (or most baffling...) part about our experience was the fact that they rounded off our bill total from RM55.60 to RM56.00. Unfortunately didnβt notice soon enough to clarify this with them. I also understand that this is not a large sum but the logic this rounding-off was based on is 100% beyond us and I genuinely canβt imagine how many patrons they have done this to (and the amount they may have collected from such dishonesty). What a scam. Safe to say I wonβt be going back ever again.
TL;DR: Please at least check your bill BEFORE you pay if you decide to visit this place. Lol.

β β β β β When we arrived at 1.30pm, the friendly head waiter (or manager?) informed us that the set meal ran out of stock (which is the reason we went there, set menu is around RM 12-25, which is CHEAP). Felt deceived but understandable since it's a new restaurant learning the ropes. Ala carte price: RM 36 (salmon mango), RM42 for bbq ribs.
Pros: good presentation, good fries, next to the sea, balcony area is nice if it's not too sunny
Cons: tiny meat portion, mango sauce is made from cordial not fresh mango. Salmon was undercooked and unfresh (had a smell). We returned it and got replaced with tilapia with orange sauce, a dish which was bland and smell-less. Ribs weren't that good (poor quality ribs).
A good dish requires good skills and quality ingredients. Chops and Hops unfortunately just had one of those.

β β β β β Great restaurant. Finally, a great place for expats to eat and hang out that knows how to serve and care for their customers like they do in western restaurants. The moment we walked in, the manager was attentive until we left. My wife forgot her face mask and he gave us one for free. The food was great and plenty of it. The service was amazing and didn't have to ask for more iced tea. He just kept coming with it until we left. Very clean. Great views. Will return again and again. The value for the lunch special was excellent. So, all in all. (1) Service great. (2) Food great (3) Value great (4) Napkin included (5) Unlimited Iced tea (Oops, maybe not supposed to mention that (6) Music - AMAZING.
