β β β β β In #Malaysia, #good #food can be found just around the corner. Literally. My family's favourite #fruit #rojak is found at the corner of Citibank, Bandar Puteri. I would proudly recommend this rojak to anyone. This rojak is legit!

Conversations with the rojak uncle reveals how difficult it can be sometimes for him to be an honest vendor. He once recounted the many times he has attempted to apply for a proper #hawker license but he does not understand why his applications are rejected, even though he has done all that is required, including getting all the necessary injections. His #stall has also been towed away before and he had to pay lots of money to get his mobile stall back. On luckier days gets away with a fine from the city council.

While mixing up the different #ingredients today, he also talks about the rising #cost of raw ingredients and the pressures from #customers to have cheaper rojak. He assures me that he has tried cutting cost by using cheaper ingredients like fruits and nuts but it was not up to his standards. Trying to find a non-existent sweet spot between cost and sale price. Not forgetting to mention the early mornings where he visits the wholesale market for the best fruits and his wife prepares the darkest and most kaw rojak sauce.

He used to operate daily except for Thursdays. But these days, good rojak can only be found on #Saturdays and #Sundays when city council #enforcement #officers cannot be found. During #weekdays he simply works for a friend in a factory, a more painless option compared to the effort needed to make an awesome rojak.

It seems stalls like this will eventually become mere stories we tell our #children about about what they are missing out in #life. Meanwhile, I am having awesome rojak about once or twice a week, telling myself I am having a #healthy fruit #salad with #Malaysian dressing.
