My wife, who is forever on a hunt for places to eat, came across this place and suggested we try it. My first experience was through take away, and then a week later, it was in-house dining. Nestled along the same row as other luminaries such as Kanna Curry House and Strangers at 47, Kampung Contemporary serves Nonya dishes with a twist that is in line with its name - contemporary. Parking along Jalan 17/45 can be a bit of a spin at the roulette table, but normally works itself out after a few rounds. This is understandable since it shares Jalan 17/45 with other restaurants as well. The entrance and general decor in the place is unpretentious, bright and airy. Seating is also laid out in horizontal rows, though I must say that the spacing between rows is just enough without any space between your back and the person behind you. The menu isn't as extensive as most other Nonya restaurants, but I like it that way - it shows focus. I would rather have less items on a menu that are all good, rather than so many items in the menu that are all mediocre. The pork satay, through experience, is better consumed in house than taken away. The tender pieces of pork start to become a bit hard and dry once it's taken out of the shop and eaten later, but that's through no fault of the kitchen, it's just the way meat behaves. Another must try is the Nyonya Chicken Rendang which is complemented with apples. This unorthodox sort of pairing with fruits can be found in their Claypot Starfruits Assam Fish and also Charred Cauliflower with garlic sauce & fresh pomegranate as well. They all work very well, indeed. The Babi Cili Garam was not a love at first taste for me, but as I continued it did grow on me. Still, the flavours were a little off balanced - it was pork fried with a sambal shrimp sauce, and there were times when the shrimp sambal overpowered the pork, making it feel more like a seafood dish instead. Nyonya Braised Pork Pongteh was very good, and the pork belly used in it worked well. Honey Soy Korean Fried Chicken had citrus hints in it, and that gave the dish that little bit of surprise when you first bite into it. I enjoyed the Lor Bak as well. Well marinated pork in the bean curd skin was done extremely well. Only gripe I had was that the Lor (sauce) was not starchy enough. End your meal with their tasty desserts. The cendol (again, better eaten in house than taken away) has really aromatic gula Melaka and makes for a wonderfully sweet treat. My wife did comment that portions were a little small, but I found it to be adequately sized. Too much of a good thing can spoil the experience, and this makes the diner want to come back for more. Very reasonably priced, great food in an airy ambience. I like this place - and will be back for sure. Oh, and say hi to Alvin - he really is number one in service!

Unique food with great taste. Although parking around the area can be really difficult to find on a packed day.

Came across this restaurant at FB. The review was good. Decent restaurant. Food was just awesome with reasonable pricing. We had the dinner set for 4. The coconut rice was fragrant and tasted good. The Claypot Asam Fish was good. Cauliflower was very differently cooked and it tasted good. Will surely visit again to try the other dishes. Keep up the good work. And, that's Pork Satay.. Melaka style

Revisited this place after years and we are reasonably satisfied this time around. Nasi lemak + pork lard + siew yok is an example of creative culinary, not those syiok-sendiri fushion. Fried udon is so so but nyonya laksa and cendol are quite spot on.

Awesome food at reasonable price! The nasi lemak is really superb! Babi pongteh melts in the mouth. Will return again to try out other dishes.

Very good food quality. Ordered pork lard nasi lemak siu yok & apple chicken rendang. Rice is very different and fragrant, you wont get it anywhere outside. Chendol has very strong Gula Melaka and Santan taste. Overall ambience is nice as well. You would need to try to understand. Only one feedback on the iced kopi, I think it would taste better without ice blended.

Casual Nyonya Affair The wife's brother-in-law suggested that we eat Nyonya food for lunch one Saturday afternoon when we were out of idea on what to eat, and Chinese food idea was flatly rejected by the young ones. OK lo.. no Chinese food, we go Nyonya and they can't really complain. What we didn't expect was that we had to wait for tables - there were more than 10 of us and they were experiencing full house - when we arrived at the front door. Famous for the sure yuk Nasi lemak, it was better for us to order aka carte dishes for sharing instead and since we were in a big group.. we could afford to order more. ◾we started off with nicely charred Melaka pork satay that came with Nyonya style dipping sauce which reminded me of acar. A sign of many good things to come! ◾a very hungry boy in the family ordered an individual set of Pork Lard Nasi Lemak with crispy siew yuk that even I could not resist eating some of it. He gave me a death stare.. literally! ◾Claypot Starfruit Assam Siakap - the gravy was such a rice puller but I refrained from asking for a bowl... The Assam gravy was quite balanced in terms of sweet, sour and spicy ◾pineapple prawn curry - the curry got its sweetness from the pineapple. ◾pandan lemongrass fried chicken - this nicely fried chicken has very nice taste of lemongrass upon each bite. ◾sambal tumis sotong ◾cincalok omelette - just because Nyonya style omelette has cincalok in it. ◾charred cauliflower with signature garlic sauce - surprise surprise that I like this dish the most and not any meat dish! ◾basmati white rice ◾Melaka cendol using 100% pure gula melaka, shaved ice, coconut milk, cendol jelly and red beans.. I think this is definitely one of the better cendol that I'd tried in Klang Valley. ◾Signature traditional hainan kopi - Kaw kaw The name itself made me think that it might be some sort of masakan kampung with contemporary twist but boy how I was wrong. Price was affordable for the quality, and some might even say punching above its weight too. Will be back for other Nyonya goodness.

I had a family lunch here and the food was amazing! Gosh, the lard on top of the delicious nasi lemak was sinfully good! Crunchy at first, then melts in your mouth! I also loved the rich flavours of the Nyonya curry laksa. Other highlights were the roast pork (a good crunch and tender meat) and the superb pork satay (incredible how tender and flavourful it was)! Just wow! I have no doubts whatsoever recommending this restaurant. ??? Can’t wait to return and try some of the other dishes.
