★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 08/05/2022 approximately 10.55pm. I went to this store to buy some drinks with my son. The bill was RM12.50. My son gave a RM20 note and I added RM2.50 to facilitate change of RM10.
To my surprise, the foreign worker working there denied the RM20 because it was sellotaped. He even said to me "ATM tak terima" (do not accept - which I think he meant CDM - Cash Deposit Machine) I tried to reason with him by telling him, this can be easily done at the counter but he insisted by not accepting the RM20.00 note.
I gave RM10.00 with the RM2.50 and before leaving the store, I told him that it is WRONG and a major offence of the country for you not to accept this note and you may risk yourself being deported. (it's like giving impression I'm giving a fake note) As long as there is a photo of HRM The Yang Di Pertuan Agong, denying it - can be misconstrued as disrespect.
(I feel very embarassed with this situation - being living in Sri Gombak/Pinggiran area for more than 35 years - never being "humiliated" in this manner by a foreign worker who appeared NOT to know ANYTHING about denying a valid Malaysian currency.. I always have problems of communication with foreign workers in some KK in the past. Some of the problems in the past were being "shortchanged" a number of times including this store)
I went to a nearby 7-11 where the local worker gladly accepting the RM20.00 without much hassle.
I think KK should educate foreign workers on this issue where I am sure that this is NOT your trading policy. Don't EVER deny a valid Malaysian Ringgit denomination of any value even it's blotched with ink. It can be redeemed at the counter of any banks in Malaysia. Please watch your CCTV to verify my complaint.
