The food will take longer than normal to come out, but that’s because Jee Jee is having fun while cooking and chatting up her regular clients. I’m reminded of Bourdain’s comments about kitchens being unfriendly places for women. Maybe women would succeed even more in open-air kitchens where they could interact with customers more easily. In any case, they’re known for laksa, but it’s not offered every day. (August 2018)
