★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 许多梅姓族人在19世纪中期陆续南来槟城谋生。1841 年，族长梅佛星向族人倡议筹组会所，以照顾新落脚的族人，获得族人的热烈响应，遂在槟城中街设立了梅氏公所。
成立60年后，南来槟城的梅氏族人日益增多，梅氏公所已不敷应用。当任主席梅宗雅提议另建家庙，于是新祠堂最终在1909年在现有庙址落成。这栋建筑仿照了故乡祠堂的风格，同时易名为梅氏家庙。
1941年的二战前夕，正是梅氏家庙成立的一百周年。梅氏族人当时还举行了庆典仪式。二战期间乔治市许多建 筑遭到空袭而损毁，惟梅氏家庙却幸保完整。
1974年家庙的修建计划在各地族人的响应下积极筹备完成。家庙重修完成后，梅氏家庙的领导层倡议将余款用 于设立会员子女奖学金，从而每年定期颁发奖学金。
Many people from the Mei tribe came south to Penang to earn a living in the mid-19th century. In 1841, the patriarch May Fossing proposed to the tribe to organize a club to take care of the newly settled tribesmen. The tribe received enthusiastic response from the tribe, and set up the Mei Clan House in Penang Middle Street.
Sixty years after its establishment, the number of people from the Mei clan who came to Penang from the south was increasing, and the Mei's residence was no longer sufficient. The current chairman Mei Zongya proposed to build another family temple, so the new ancestral hall was finally completed in 1909 on the existing temple site. This building is modeled after the style of the ancestral hall in the hometown, and at the same time it was renamed the Mei Family Temple.
On the eve of World War II in 1941, it was the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Mei Family Temple. The Mei clan also held a celebration ceremony at that time. Many buildings in George Town were damaged by air raids during World War II, but the Mei family temple was fortunately kept intact.
In 1974, the family temple construction plan was actively prepared and completed with the response of local people. After the renovation of the family temple was completed, the leadership of the Mei family temple proposed to use the remaining funds to establish scholarships for the children of members, so as to award scholarships regularly every year.
