So beautiful... the only beautiful, historical, and amazing jetty you can have in the world. It might not be the highest technology jetty in the world, but it will be the warmed welcome and rare jetty and ferry in the world.

It's free to board here to mainland, but need to pay when coming from mainland. A good way to appreciate the view of Penang Island, especially at night

A ferry terminal located at Penang island. Looks old but still very useful and the nearest way to Penang from mainland especially from north. The experience is surely very interesting.

As one of the local, I personally really dislike the situation where everyone is pushing each other to try to get on-board faster, even though they know they are late comers. Having a very bad experience with disorder, bad manner and over-crowded, while waiting for the ferry to arrive. The jetty has no system to control, nor to assist people. Only a waiting room which should be only capable to fit in 300 people, according to sign board, yet more and more people are pushing into the waiting zone. Fortunately there is a separate waiting area for people with needs, pregnant woman and elderly for them to wait. But still people tend to push the gate and push the people from the special care zone when the jetty arrived. Only one ferry per trip every 20 minutes is basically ridiculous, even though it is free for people to go to Butterworth from George Town through jetty service. The service will allow car to be loaded before human. It is a good way to travel if you have plenty of time to experience these. But if you're in a rush, take Uber.

Except for the long queue and some uncivilised people who cut the queue!

Breath-taking view of Penang aboard a cheap ferry ride that hasn't changed much in the last 30-40 years. Ferry stunk of all sorts of smell, from human odour to stagnant water, but it contributes to the authenticity of the ferry ride experience. On a good day, you can board the ferry immediately but most of the time, you will need to wait between 20-45 minutes to board. The ferry can take both pedestrians as well as vehicles. Definitely recommended for tourists.
