Had a great lunch of Hainanese Chicken Chop, Mushroom Soup etc with friends at Soo Guan Restoran, located within the Georgetown Heritage belt, some 100m away from First Avenue. A very simple decor therein and we were served by very polite and cheerful staff. The Chicken Chop, a popular item was delicious and chicken, very juicy! Love the thick and creamy mushroom soup! Nice ambience, great food and ar a very reasonable price!!!

I walked past this unassuming shophouse today and the sign "#ChickenChop" caught my attention. A quick check on Facebook says they specialize in Hainanese food. Perfect! I could do with a Hainanese Chicken Chop today. SOP was followed as I entered. A lady made sure I checked-in on MySejahtera, and then proceeded to take my temperature and offered me a spray of hand sanitizer. The shop seemed small (pic attached), so seating is limited. It was empty today when I entered. Lucky me! Order was quickly taken and food arrived in 10minutes! Yes, I counted. It's probably one of the best Hainanese Chicken Chop I've ever had. Better than that famous Yut Kee in KL. Yes, I've said it. Price was a little on the higher side (RM17.50), but it's worth it. Seems like they've opened here in Penang only less than 2 years ago. I sincerely wish these guys all the best. Hope to bring the family here someday. Definitely 5-stars from me.

Food is old style and pretty good. One has to be patient when it comes to serving time. Small place with just a handful of tables but somehow it takes quite long. Service so so only. Make sure you order combo with drinks as it costs RM7 for a ice lemon tea if order separately.

The hainanese chicken chop was mediocre, the beef stew was sadly not appetizing, as in the stew was not soft and the soup was just made an hour ago. The ayam penyet was the most dissapointing dish of them all as the the ayam itself was not marinated at all, the sauce had only spiciness to make up for the "penyet" if that's what u desire. The shop is old with only up to 4 tables that can only make up for about 12-16 customers. Overall, this is an "OK" rating if you just want to fill up your tummy. I just wished at least one of the dishes made an impact but unfortunately that wasn't the case. The toilet had no lights and you have to take the utensils and the ketchup/chili sauce bottles by yourselves.

Food was overall okay. Had the hainanese chicken chop. Liked the sauce but the chicken chop skin was rather starchy. Quite limited dine in seating but I had no issue as I came during off peak times. The service staff was good but could be improved. He seemed a bit confused about the combo meal which made me confused. ? But all turned out good. Worth a try if you're craving for hainanese chicken chop.

We arrived probably 20mins to closing, they graciously accepted my party of 3, so kind of the front off house and kitchen! ??? We went ahead and ask for their Hainanese Chicken Chop, mine with an extra fried egg on top. I've had my cravings for Hainanese Chicken Chop many months ago, and i must say, Soo Guan truly satisfied my cravings. Perfect in every sense of what a Hainanese Chicken Chop should be, the right amount of breading, the balance taste of its piquant sauce, well fried fries, green pies and slithers of onions, salads and cucumbers and tomatoes and dinner roll..... can't say more then TRULY SEDAP. Never heard of this place before until i Google'd Chicken Chop near me whilst walking around Armenian Street.. it was a REMARKABLE find. And its Halal / Pork Free restaurant, limited dine-in seating, can't wait for my next visit to try their Mee Hailam and Beef Stew...
