★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Heard so much about their famous loh mee. Overated. But to my dissapointment its not nice at all. Firstly the lard taste so rancid until not able to finish it. Secondly they added in too much vinegar. Taste so sour and after taste of rancid. But the loh bak is good but on the pricy side each log bak cost rm10. Would not go again. Service here is not so good. A bit rude to customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ So little egg in the gravy and only 3 tiny pieces of pork in their Loh Mee S size. Taste is ok only. Don’t go

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ulu yam lor mee. Original taste. Noodle is fresh and chewy. Broth is heavy with black vinegar. Loh bak is well marinated. Fried to perfection. Crispy skin and soft meat fillings. Our favourite dish.
The restaurant also serves tai chow type of food and Pahang river dishes like Patin fish.
Along the road, coming from the truck road into the village, you will also see a few more house/shops selling their own versions of lor mee as Ulu Yam is famous for its black vinegar version of this noodle. Most shops have their own patrons.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ulu Yam old town, trying out the authentic Lo Mein 古早味 卤面. This is my second visit to this shop. Not my style (texture) of noodle. I enjoy the big jug of honey lemon in a hot noon. Ordered frog legs and fried Fu Chook with fish paste 西刀鱼炸腐竹。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One my way up to Kuantan, I thought I’ll detour and try the much vaunted Hulu Yam Lor Mee or Braised Sauce Noodles. This restoran comes highly recommended so I made my way there just before the lunch crowd.
And the word Hulu comes to mind when I was trying get there. It was very deep beyond suburban area. But when the noodles arrived, all is forgotten.
The noodles taste more like udon and it soaks up the braised sauce quite well. If you don’t like vinegar, you can ask for less and vice versa. The fish cakes were fried and very crunchy with every bite.
My mistake was to come alone and I could not order fish and other stuff to try. Just sit there watching other tables enjoying. Must come again with more people the next time.
Lady boss was very friendly. Offered me a type of chip made from pumpkins. Okay that’s new for me.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lunch try out in ulu yam. Ordered the famous loh mee, braised pork meehoon, lobak, fish cake and kong po cuttlefish. Service was lacking due to lack of workers n lots of patronage. After 35mins wait all the foods safely arrived. The loh mee was good, they add in the vinegar during cooking. The soup based is dark in colour and the mee is flat as opposed to thick rounded type we find in other places. Only drawback is some might find the taste overpowering due to the infused vinegar. The meehoon was ok with ample pieces of meat. Lobak n fish cake is on par. Kong po cuttlefish tastes flat ??. Pricing is ok but be prepared to wait.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Even a non-fan of thick noodles will find the lor mee good. The braised meat fried beehoon is very fragrant. Fishcake is crunchy and meatroll is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also ordered ginger onion snakehead fish slice. Fresh and tasty. Try their coconut liquor. Very fragrant and sweet.
