โ โ โ โ โ Always a nice place to work, study and just chill.
Have a few seats with electric outlets if you are lucky enough. Not too crowded. Recommend the nitro brew and latte.

โ โ โ โ โ Packed but worth the wait. Service is calm and they will let you know if there is waiting time. Lively ambience for breakfast. Brek-o-day and English breakfast tea starts the day nicely.

โ โ โ โ โ Pros: Friendly staff, plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. Outdoor is a non-smoking zone (mega plus plus). Environment is very nice and the usual plus points of CBTL. Generally follows SOPs apart from inconsiderate customers speaking loudly without masks and rearranging tables on behalf of the staff.
Cons: Poached egg is not poached, more to hard boiled. Place can be pretty packed at times. Staff can be a bit absent minded like refilling tea with boiling water. Communication can be difficult as the place can be noisy, made worse by the masks.

โ โ โ โ โ Scone set is good value (MYR 13) - I replaced the drink with Gibraltar Americano with no extra charge. Scone is nice, and the Gibraltar Americano is one of my favourite coffee drink.

โ โ โ โ โ Welcome to coffee flavoured milk presented as latte. My friend's favourite spot to use his Citibank Creditcard Buy 1 Free 1 coffee, always ending up with 2 cups of hot frothy milk but little taste of coffee, if any. Blame it on the coffee bean selection by their Singaporean or Dutch HQ. Over the years, this chain has never understood coffee drinkers' need for Italian roasted beans with their cuppa. Now with the Dutch in charge, its more like Dutchlady on offer.

โ โ โ โ โ As someone who spends many afternoons whiling at coffee shops, I can say that the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) outlet at G Hotel is arguably the best coffee shop in Penang/North Malaya. Perhaps even the country.
The outlet's unique selling proposition lies not in its F&B offerings. After all, CBTL does maintain relative consistent quality management of its products, therefore, there is little differentiation in F&B between all the outlets.
What makes the CBTL G Hotel stand out is the exceptional service by its crew. From my observation through the years of patronising this place, through changes in supervisors, staff, and decor, it is clear that this is the result of good leadership by the present outlet head, Diny.
I've observed her calm, friendly, yet firm, demeanour in guiding her staff. Generating positive vibes, an eye to detail, and empathic understanding of customer needs, Diny has managed to infuse warmth and character into what is otherwise a standard outlet of an international chain, making it akin to an artisanal neighborhood coffee shop.
Obviously, no matter how good a manager is, a great deal also hinges on the staff. Admittedly, there have been hits and misses through Diny's time at the outlet. Some staff just have too much inherent negativity to be trained. However, I believe Diny has been better than most other supervisors in developing the staff under her care. Due to the transient nature of coffee shop staffing, I've seen many of her good team members come and go. I would like to give a shout out to 3 staff presently at the outlet: Amin, Peter, and Zuzu.
I look forward to experiencing continued excellence from the CBTL G Hotel, and for its positive practices to spread to other CBTL outlets.
