★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If it was possible to give zero stars I would. I and a whole group of volunteers had the worst experience here! Pages and pages couldn’t describe what we went through here from her talking behind her volunteers back to not helping any of the ones she claims, to the absolute and utter disrespectful manner in which she treats her volunteers and people she sees as beneath her. The bottom line is that the one woman, Shaym, running this NGO or hostel or whatever she calls it is not mentally stable enough to manage volunteers or host anyone! Please for your own and those she claims to help’s sake, don’t go here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We spent a couple of nights at YH KL in July, 2013, and we really enjoyed our time there. The accommodation is basic, but that's not the main point: while you are staying there, you can contribute to several project to help locals. Thus, you get real life experiences, and you can feel more useful during your travelling.
There was high-speed internet in the YH, some places to eat and shops around, and it was really easy to get to the center by bus.
I would recommend YH to those, who are looking for something deeper than just a room to sleep.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I stayed for a couple of days recently and really enjoyed my time there. The accommodation has been setup for people to stay whilst volunteering at some community projects nearby.
The dorm rooms were comfy with new bedding etc and well kitted out with fans / power points. Plenty of space to chill out in the common area and wifi/computer supplied making it easy for me to stay connected. There are a few restaurants within walking distance nearby but be wary, this is not the middle of the city, it is about 30 min outside the city but only a bus ride away (plenty of buses)
This staff running this place are very friendly and helpful and as it grows it will only get better. Thanks YH for making my stay so memorable :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had a great month here back in October. My volunteering activities included teaching rugby and science to the refugee children from Hilla Community Centre nearby to the house, and DIY projects at Yellow House.
It was a great experience helping at Hilla and I really felt that my time was appreciated and enjoyed by the kids and the other volunteer teachers. I really hope Yellow House can continue to put more volunteers in touch with Hilla in the future. Its a really worth while project.
The Yellow House is basic but homely, social and a great place to meet interesting people. The community spirit with the neighbours in which yellow house was based was a real highlight, especially Deepavali celebrations!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I volunteered at Yellow House KL for 2 months in 2013.
I really enjoyed my time there, getting to live in a real Malaysian community and being welcomed by the mix of neighbours from all over! I particularly enjoyed being enough out of the city to experience the community feel of the area, whilst also being able to hop on a bus into the bright lights of KL within about 30 mins (out of rush hour!).
My absolute highlight was volunteering at Hilla Community Centre in Ampang for refugee children, teaching english, science and sport (or anything you are able to contribute)! Its a wonderful place to spend time and give something back.
Yellow House has good wifi, a comfortable communal area, a shared kitchen and some great local resturants within 5 minutes walk (try Hafiz Corner!)
Ive been travelling now for over 1 year and Yellow House really offers something different to your typical hostel!! A memorable experience!!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 1. Good for people who seek to do volunteering and voluntourism work.
2. Good for people who likes travelling while knowing the local people and culture.
3. Good for people who are laid back and not high maintenance as Yellow House is a minimal and basic NGO with hostel.
4. Good for people who want to contribute in multiple areas such as for animals, refugee children, homeless people while learning about the reality of Malaysia
5. Do take note of the similar messages you can take away from the existing reviews. The host does have her flaws when it comes to interpersonal communications.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ DO NOT GO HERE, do not volunteer here, do not stay at this hostel. Please do yourself a favor and do not, under any circumstances, get involved with this "organization". Yellow House is not a real organization and is not actually undertaking most of the initiatives it claims it is. The lady who runs it was extremely hurtful and unprofessional and spoke horribly about me to the other volunteers during my time at the organization. There are many wonderful organizations in Kuala Lumpur to volunteer at, but this is certainly not one of them.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I stayed here in 2017 for about 3 weeks and and had the worst experience. All 6 of us staying at the house left early (4 of whom I’d just met there). Shyam who is the owner, was extremely unprofessional and would constantly gossip about everyone and even post things about us on her social media. The volunteer work was a lot of fun but very inconsistent and the organizations we were volunteering at were even irritated about Shyam not letting us go back when we wanted. On top of paying to do volunteer work, you have to deep clean her house inside and out on a daily basis. My bedroom had 2 cockroaches and my bed was infested with bedbugs. I had horrible, huge welts all over my legs every morning. Anyway, it was definitely the worst part of my 3 month traveling vacation and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. The owner being like 99.9% of the reason. Don’t do it!
