Hungry Ghost Festival at Yong Chuan Tian Temple Melaka was held on Sunday 18 August 2019. People offer joss paper to honor their ancestors, brothers and sisters of the other world during the Hungry Ghost Prayers yesterday in a Taoist temple on 195 Jalan Parameswara, Melaka (Malacca). Complete rituals conducted by ‘Sai Kong’ is important so that the show of respect to the dead is properly offered and Yong Chuan Tian has a very good understanding of the festival. The ability to show proper ancient old ritual is a heritage Yong Chuan Tian Temple has preserved and they are still strictly following the old steps today. Another example of Yong Chuan Tian Temple strict obedience of the Chinese rituals is the Wangkang Festival. The Heritage Preservation Unit of Malaysia has certified the Wangkang Festival and UNESCO is processing the temple’s submission of the Wangkang Ritual. Wangkang Ritual primary objective is to grouped all stray spirits roaming with the living for the good of the dead and the living. The seventh lunar month is a ghost month where all spirits and deceased ancestors come out from their world to visit the living. (Sun 18 Aug 2019) Wangkang 2020 Timeline: 20191207 Sat.
