The food is decent, but not great. Acceptable izakaya food.
However, come for the alcohol. A good selection of Japanese sake, plum wine, beers... even some soju too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Been here twice so far. Food quality is 100% excellent, and the service is honestly great for Malaysian standards. It would be better once more traffic comes in and more staff are hired, but the training seems quite good!
But yeah, food quality is awesome - sashimi/sushi is great quality (better than rakuzen I'd say), karaage is awesome, even the Wasabi is a grade higher than most restos.
Price wise the drinks are well priced and fairly tasty. House sake has been inconsistent - first time amazing, second time sour! I'd minus pts but second time was a real busy weekend.
All in all, extremely worth visiting for drinks with friends and family.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great selection of sake. I enjoyed the food. Waiters are responsive and friendly. Only dissatisfaction was when I ordered warm sake they served it barely warm, close to room temperature. Please please please improve on temperature control as it means a lot for sake lovers. Thanks.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Izakaya Niwa is located in Oasis Ara Damansara. They serve a variety of small dishes and mains to go with rice and drinks. Interior decor is pretty similar to the previous Japanese restaurant that occupied this shop lot. They have sofa seats which are comfortable. Service was very friendly and we even got a complimentary small dish. The dishes are cooked individually, so be prepared to wait. Small dishes, like side dishes, start from RM 5.90. Food was tasty and we had beef tongue, chicken karaage, pork salad, gyoza, omelette, cold tofu, etc. Servings were small for the price so more dishes are needed to complete the meal which came to RM 150 for 4 pax including green tea.

Mark of authenticity as actual Japanese people eat here. Really detailed and flavorful food by a chef with an remarkable palate.
Important note, be prepared to wait a LONG time for food (almost an hour).
But absolutely worth it. Enjoy some drinks and a zen feeling while you wait.

Ambience could use improvement, and it gets a little warm inside.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really nice Izakaya. The food is absolutely delicious and they also offer a large variety of drinks. The fried chicken is a must have because it’s super crispy and juicy. The salmon was also super juicy and fresh, they cooked it to perfection. I’ll definitely come again because the prices were surprisingly affordable.
If you’re Japanese and you’re looking for an authentic Izakaya this is definitely one of them. Saw plenty of Japanese people dining there and they have Japanese staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice and cozy restaurant. Overall food taste and quality is good. Decent portions and prices. Staff are attentive and friendly.
The salad was a good and light start. Tofu smooth with firm and soft texture. Thumbs up for the char siew rice, with nice thick cuts of braised char siew. The beef was a bit of a disappointment, was kinda tough but alright if you like it really chewy. Though I think some dishes had a lot of MSG, left me thirsty after the meal.
